106" DLP Projector Setup
Denon 7.1 A/V Reciever
Is 6' too close for 1st row of seats? Is 11' too far for the 2md row? Any other comments?
I am considering The Showtime Collection, The Director Collection, or the Studio from Carolina Furniture.
Thanks!
Here is a plan without the labels and measurements....

Good rule of thumb...For every ft. wide the scren is, view from same distance back.

It's all a matter of subjective taste, but in my humble opinion, 6 feet is way too close for a 106" screen... If you go that close, I would advise trying it out in a showroom first. You'll defitinitely need a really, really good HD projector, and even then, at 6 feet, it's gonna show some pixelization... I have a 106" screen in my room with a 720p projector, and my first row of seating is at about 11 feet with the second row at about 17 feet if memory serves correctly. Basically, unless you can change the dimensions of your room, you don't really have sufficient space for two rows of seating... also, I'd recommend moving that sub from the back of the room to the front... you can play with it to see how it works, but generally speaking, that's about the worst place to put a sub.
Pixelation or not, 6 feet is WAY too close to be watching a 106" screen. You won't enjoy it and chances are you'll get headaches from that large an image so close to you.

Looking at the pictures, 6ft is where the front of the seat is not his head. I would think his head would be somewhere in the 8-9ft range for the first row. Plenty far away IMO.
Thanks for the comments. I am going to a 106" from a 77" so I guess I will have to wait and see. My projector is a Knoll-108.
The subwoofer was pre-wired by my home builder's technology sub-contractor. Supposedly they are "HT Experts" and chose the optimal speaker locations.
Here are some pics, as you can see the sub is not easily movable.

This is the old 77" drop down screen, @ 6' now it is too small, I watch the 42" LCD in my bedroom over this right now

SInce you have it all set up. pop a movie in and set up a chair at 6' you be the judge if that is to close.

I am still waiting on the 106" screen.

Been around many so called experts... never known one yet that recommended placing a sub in the back of the room without trying it out everywhere else first. Bet you a shiny penny that you are probably going to be dealing with some cancellation and potential timing issues... hopefully not, but that doesn't make sense. You'll probably end up pointing that front-firing sub at that corner if you leave it there. Also hope that in-wall center channel and front L/R are directional... Are they going to do calibrations once everything is done?
As far as the 6' issue goes, just put a sheet to check it out till the screen arrives. At the eye position, it will be about 8 feet, which might make it watchable, but probably still be too close... again, you will have to see if it works for you...

Recorded video sources "all" have anomalies and artifacts which when viewed to closely will show ugly picture artifacts.
106" screen at 6' viewing distance?
