For a DIY Sub project the software I am using calculated a port lengs of 22 cm - For my layout I would like for 7 cm out of those 22 to extend past the cabinet - In other words parts of the port would extend past the fornt of the box. Would the part that extends past the fron of the box still be considered effetive port length?
Does this have any effect on the port length / design?
Does the port have to be fully inside the box?

Thanks, Patrick

Unless I am mistaken..

The port can run outside the cabinet and is considered effective port length.

Does the port have to be fully in the box...NO. As long as a proper seal is done and the port is secure in the cabinet.

You can use a flexible port,as long as it retains its shape and is rigid enough.

Why ports are almost always in the cabinet save for HSY Turbo porting...and a few subs made to be on wall-in floor.Becauase it would not be practical and you do not want tubes sticking out of a cabinet.

Patrick, Ear is correct, but why not run your questions by the guys in the DIY forum. Collectively, they've built almost eveything imaginable.

Thanks, I was looking to that answer - I guess this would also mean that you could reverse the position of a port so that it would completely extend past the box. Granted - that would look interesting.
The Ear... you assumption was good ... In my case this will be a in wall installation too.
Mojomike ... I messed up - I used the wrong forum.
