About a year and a half ago, I bought what I thought was a Velodyne SPL-800 MKII to replace my aging F1200 Velydyne. The Sound Advice (Tweeter) Store in my area was going out of business and I couldn’t beat the price; $499. I have been very happy with this sub, but the other day was cleaning it and doing some tweaks and noticed the model number on the bottom is something along the lines of SPL1086II, or something. The first five characters are SPL10xxx.

What is the model number designations on these speakers, and is it possible the salesman made a mistake and sold me an SPL-10?

Also, for anyone else who has this or similar subs. How harmful or will it shorten the speakers life span to leave it on all the time, instead of using input sensing? My sub cuts off way to often when I am watching a show or movie and there isn’t much bass content when I switch it to inpuut sensing. Obviously it isn’t important when watching the evening news, but it gets distracting to hear the pop, which denotes it going to sleep. If I left it in on position all the time, would this be bad, or kill it prematurely?

leaving it on is a valid thing to do. There *MAY* be a reduction in lifetime, but usually, there may not be a difference compared to using the auto-on mode. The sub-amp is pretty much nearly fully on for a lot of subs even when set to auto-on.

You may want to fiddle with your input levels (add more gain to the receiver's sub level but simtaneously lower your sub's level control). That should allow it to kick in at lower volumes for the auto-on mode

Conly,
Try using an rca splitter and plug both inputs on the Velodyne. In addition, turn the subwoofer signal up ~5 db on the receiver and down some on the subwoofer gain dial. This will probably fix your issue.

I'll try messing with the gains, but i'm already using a y-adapter. The problem doesn't seem to be the receiver, but the sources... I have had this problem for the past year. The receiver has been updated from HK to Marantz and the problem still exist. Seems to be the way things handle the direcTV inputs.
