So i have dishnetwork and with it my local channels, but not in HD. So i went out and bought a RCA Indoor Antenna ANT108. Can i use this antenna to pick up hd signals of my local channels? Even if im using my satellite? If so, how? Im hopeing to get this working so i can watch some NBA playoff games in hd.

I have: Dishnetwork Standard DVR Reciever 552 and for tv set a Sony XBR970

Thanks in advance

We need some more info here....like....Where in New York are you located? What type of TV/monitor do you have (HD, I presume....)
The skinny....If you're within good reception range of your local stations, you SHOULD be able to receiver HD fine....Remember....depending on where you're located, your local DIGITAL feed(s) are more likely to be on UHF rather than VHF....so the antenna you choose MUST be able to pull in UHF well...
Bottom line....Try the RCA....assuming you kept the receipt....if it doesn't work....take it back where you bought it.....no harm, no foul.....
Good Luck!

Please post your zip code! Then we can look up the stations and your approximate distances and directions to the broadcast towers. You should start with www.antennaweb.org to see where your digital stations are.

Unless you live up on top of a hill, an indoor antenna is not likely to do the job. I can't find a reference for the ANT108, but I assume it is an amplified rabbit ear / UHF loop or one of those flat panel antennas?

Using your zip, adding a antenna height of 200' to get a more complete list of stations, and editing the list to your local major stations:

* yellow - uhf WRGB-DT 6.1 CBS SCHENECTADY NY 2° 28.2 39
* yellow - uhf WMHT-DT 17.1 PBS SCHENECTADY NY 2° 28.2 34
* yellow - uhf WTEN-DT 10.1 ABC ALBANY NY 2° 28.2 26
* green - vhf WXXA-DT 23.1 FOX ALBANY NY 2° 27.7 7
* red - uhf WCWN-DT 45.1 CW SCHENECTADY NY 2° 28.2 43
* red - vhf WNYT-DT 13.1 NBC ALBANY NY 2° 28.2 12

You are around 28 miles from the digital stations. Two are on upper VHF channels 7 & 12, the rest are on UHF. You should be looking at putting up an antenna in the attic or outdoors. Any one of a number of medium range VHF/UHF antennas should do the job. A Channel Master 4228 bowtie should also work.

Well since you already have the antenna go ahead and hook it up to your XBR's off air input and scan for local channels,,,maybe you'll pick up a few channels atleast, Since your DVR box is standard def i'm not sure if you should connect your off air antenna thru it.
