Hey guys, I've posted this over at the XBMC forums to no avail. I have XBMC hardwired to my wireless router (NETGEAR WGT624v3). My media is on a USB drive on my laptop. I have SMB set thought XP's sharing. When I first turn on the xbox can't connect to the share. If I power cycle my router, it finds it no problem the next try. Any ideas?
Im working on getting some parts for a small fileserver that I can connect directly to the router, Im hoping the problem is from the wireless connection.
Thanks.
is the laptop wireless? i'm assuming so because you said it was a wireless router.
if you share a folder on the laptop (not the usb), can xbmc play from it?

what AFX said and make sure you get it working with Ethernet and hten migrate to the wireless. Sounds like you are just suffering learning how to manipulate home netoworking...

Pretty much what everyone else said. Back down to the simplest steps and then expand to isolate the problem.
1) Wire everything and then share a local directory on a local HD or non-USB device.
2) Try the same with the share on the USB drive
3) Try step 1 with wireless
4) Try step 2 with wireless
Honestly, if resetting the router fixes things I'm inclined not to point to XBMC and rather something in the network or sharing - which may require adjustment in setup and not settings.

I think it has to do with the wireless connection, which is why Im building a small fileserver to hang out next to the router and plug right in.
