The real question is how are owners supposed to position these monsters? I had enough problems with my f113, I can't imagine positioning two stacked together at one time,.........oh my aching back. :(

Gotham owners have people to do that for them. :)

Seriously, we will include furniture slider discs... you would need to provide a friend or two to muscle it around.

I positioned my Fathoms with no problems. Even stacked them...I am used to piling up subs.

At least with the Gotham there is no piling up to do. Almost 400lbs...with sliders...easy. Those with carpets....HA HA :p

I have seen a few pictures of the 213, pretty impressive. Last I heard it cost $7,500.

It's more like $9k according to them today - we did see one finished and almost ready to ship out. Plenty of cabs and drivers looked built so I think you are very close to having them available. I must say the cab is the most impressive I've ever seen - it is many, many layers of fiberglass with some serious bracing and wall thickness. The drivers are pretty damn impressive too - the motor alone is ~60lbs! The gloss finish is stellar and has a lot of time & labor in it. It was also mentioned that even at $9k they did not think they were breaking even, I can believe it considering the ~80hrs to build and finish the cab alone.

The Gotham comes with rubber feet stock, these were crazy overdesigned as well!

The tour of the JL facilities was quite impressive and you should see a good thread going in the next day or so about it. Thanks again Manville & crew :)

Please don't take offense Icehawk but I think I heard them say that each cabinet is a 5 week process, between the layering, drying, re-layering, drying, painting, polishing, and then once the final application is applied it is sanded by hand in many steps from 360 grit (in and around there) all the way up to 2000 - 4000 grit and then the final polishing by hand :eek: . And this is all before the drivers and amps even come close to the cabinet. This thing is as thick as the hull on a 57' sport-fishing boat, it is a phenomenally unbelievably well built enclosure. I got some pretty good pictures of it, I will try to post them later. Suffice it to say folks, JL is a very serious, professional and dedicated audio company who blew us all away today at the tour. Committed to excellence is a gross understatement, when it comes to these guys, hats off gentlemen. :cool:

You lucky people,if I only had the luxury to take some time from work...I would be there to check the JL factory ,talk with the good folks at JL Audio and admire the Gotham.

When I told a few people JL Audio subs are second to none ,I compared with all the subs I have and so far only the Aerial SW12 is on par in terms of built quality.Allmost all others get outclassed!

The Gotham will be a true dream for any sub fanatic,and a must own for a few of us here.

Positioning shouldn't be a problem. Lay it on it's side, cover it with a blanket, and you have a great 2-3 seat bench with Bass shaking included. :D

The top of the line JL is out of my league at the moment, but I am hoping that someone on the AVS forum has the ability to purchase one of these and provide some type of review. It would be really nice if Craig would test one of these. Considering his influence using objective testing with the JL product and I would assume, increased their sales with the chatter on AVS, maybe they will send him a demo piece. hint.. hint.. Mr. Smith.. :)

Cost aside, it's an interesting piece of audio gear.

I've sort of been out of the HT market for some time but I'm slowly getting back in. With that said, is this sub really that insane? As in, $11k insane?

How would it fare against a pair of stacked Contrabasses w/ 500w amps? Looking at the JL page on this beast it's probably old technology to you guys, I know. But it's all I have and I'm wondering what kind of improvement one would see if any.
