OK, I have a small budget to either upgrade to a hi-def service for my IN72, or upgrade my speaker system to something like the paradigm C110 series. I currently view standard DVD only. I have a Sony HTiB I use with the original speakers, needless to say they are crap, but I wonder which upgrade would give me the greatest impact on money spent

Maybe you can do both.

I do not have these speakers myself. Earlier last year I replaced my mixed bag of speakers with JBL Northridge speakers through JBL's online store to go with my JBL subwoofer.

Those that are buying these speakers seem to feel that they perform in similar fashion to what you would have to spend $500 to $700 for. Not high end by any means but for limited budgets, it sounds good and I have not read anything to the contrary yet.

This link not working. Speakers look great though. If the site was working, I was going to purchase!

Don't know what your budget is, but I really enjoy the speakers that I bought. Unlike the norm I purchased Passive Monitor Speakers from the local Guitar Store. They sound incredible and very well built ~25-30lbs each. They were realtively inexpensive. They significantly dropped the price since I bought 7 for my Theater. I got the KRK ST6 model. I think they are discontinued, but you might be able to find them for cheaper yet. Since they are all the same, but fronts & surrounds are matched perfectly.

You will get more satisfaction from upgrading your speaker system. While upgrading to Hi-Def service (I assume Cable?), is less money up front, the sound system is 50% of your viewing enjoyment. That part needs to be upgraded first, IMHO.

Totally agree.....and have you considered the building block method, as your budget allows?
Say, for now, just start w/ the front soundstage. L/C/R first...then SUB, then surrounds... just make sure you have an amp that will comfortably drive your new speakers.... In general, you'll get more for your $$ this way, just not the instant gratification alot seem to want. But quality speakers usually "last longer" in most systems than other components...(upgraditis precluded of course & the obvious system being moved to new environment) IMO, this is the biggest reason to go w/ the building block method when buying speakers on a given budget.....more for the money, greater long term satisfaction

May have found a pair of NHT T5's for the steal of a lifetime. 450.00 for the pair. If the deal goes through I think I will move these and upgrade to a full set of svs or something. WOOOHOOO. lets keep my fingers crossed.

its hard to say.........everyone has thier own opinion; but I would upgrade to HD service and keep saving or shopping to find a good deal on speakers.......have you watched HD content on your in72 yet? Now that I have HD cable with my projector I couldn't imagine having to go without it........

FOr those who have a differing opinion, it should be unanimous on this idea, get the HD upgrade and if your not completely happy you can return the bix to the cable company and only be out maybe 2 dollars and get the speakers instead. The older I get the less concerned I am with the audiophile aspect compared to the videophile aspect of my life.

Audio is very important to the whole experience but not to the point where you need a set of Meridians!

I say, get your audio to handle what cinema requires for volume and where it can handle the dynamics clearly and you are good. If you budget $600, then $200 Yambekas might do the same thing. If you budget $1500, get an SVS set. If you want to spend more, have at it but you are out of my realm. :)

HD is mandatory for my PJ - I can't stand SD and its 4:3 format.

That sounds like a good idea only I have dish network and the upgrade to HD is $175.00 upfront and $20.00 extra a month. If I score on the NHT pair I am going to move them and try to use the funds I make there to upgrade to maybe the SVS line or XL-S from AV123. Whatever I decide I know I'll end up with all of it eventually. I think I like the idea of a L/C/R upgrade now and work on the rest as time and money permits.

I was able to upgrade to a Dish ViP622 for $100 and I sold my 942 to cover that, plus I'm getting the HD rebate of $10 for 10 months. I changed all my programming in Feb when they changed all their plans and even with the HD at full price I will only pay $10 more so right now I'm even.

Good luck on the NHTs, sounds like you are keeping an eye open to make your goal!
