Read on the UK AV forum that the HC5000 was no longer available, now I see the big Japan exporter P..... J...... reports that both the HC5000 and HC3100 are no longer being released by Mits.

What's up?

Might be a temporary production problem - I would wait to see some announcement from Mitsubishi themselves before pronouncing these models dead, as the HC5000 is relatively new and popular.

That is very true, as when I sold the Mitsubishi product line they would do this often as production stock became light. I do have inside information (hearsay only) that Mits is trying to make changes to beat some of the other companies to the punch by being HDMI 1.3 compatible early on this year.

I have not looked at the specs on the 5000 or the 3100, does anyone know if they are version 1.3 or version 1.2? Just a thought.

Neither is HDMI 1.3, not sure if they are 1.1 or 1.2.

The smart men and woman working at Mitsubishi, finally understood what some have suspected for a long time now.

The most crucial factor in buying a projector, is not black levels, nor resolution, nor color accuracy or gray scale accuracy, rather it's the HDMI value. The more HDMI you have, the better projector you have.

Following this notion, Mitsubishi intends to present a new scale for judging the value of a projector, it will be derived by dividing the HDMI value of the projector, by the projector's price. The number you'll get represents how many HDMIs each US dollar can buy you.

In order to stretch the limits of projector value, one of the more exciting offerings soon to be presented by Mitsubishi (as a replacement for the HC5000), is a $300 640x480 LCD projector, boasting 1.4 HDMIs. The HDMI per dollar should be unbeatable.

By acknowledging this notion, Mitsubishi will now try to take the entire market by storm and lightning.

No news about that? ... i've just seen pri**jap** that still has the NO ORDER label
near the Mitsu prj... i'm figuring out that this is a pri**jap** problem and not a Mitsubishi one: there are lots of japan sites that sells Mitsu without limitations..

The japan site shows the HC5000 available, but HC3100 still is not. Is the HC3100 currently available anywhere (Europe)?

--DanUh oh, their site now says Mits changed the firmware so the Japanese HC5000 no longer has an English menu. Wonder if Mits plans to do the same with the 3100 and that's why it's unavailable...

Can anything get worst? If that happens then it may be the MK-II for me, just will have to make it work or dish out some more bucks for 1080p DLP FP.

It's partly because of these games and trying to gouge us here in the US, that I finally went with the Epson. At least Epson finally wised up and offered the Japan version here in the states at a great price. Panasonic has also placed nice with pricing. By the time Mitsubishi wises up, many of us will already have our new pj and it won't be a Mits. ;)

I would like to get the Sharp too, tradewinds. I don't know how I could deal with the size and the noise. I don't think we should wait for the HC3100 any longer.

Speaking of which, the Pearl (manufactured refurb to LIKE NEW) was selling today for 2800 buck. I think there were three available. I really wanted to pull the trigger and get it over with, it would have worked out roughly 500 bucks more than the MK-II, however I saw Art's review and the Pearl didn't seem to shine against all competition. Hopefully there will be a few more killer deals to come shortly.
