What is the model number for the extended HV20 battery? Also, how long can I expect the camcorder to function with a full charge using this battery?

I saw that but one battery is listed a scharge time of 170 minutes and another is 175, what is the difference?

I just ordered one up on EBAY, it was cheap, something like 20 bucks.

Hmmm, I'm looking at page 19 in the HV20 manual (PDF version) and I see the following charge times listed:

NB-2LH 130 min
BP-2L13 200 min (this is the battery that comes w/ the HV20)
BP-2L14 225 min

FWIW--third-party battery resellers will typically list Canon-equivalent BP-2L12 p/n, in addition to the BP-2L14 one; the BP-2L12 will work in a HV20 as well.

I strongly recommend Sterlingtek.com. I've been using their batteries for several years now and even my oldest batteries are still in top notch condition. Furthermore my colleagues (both in video and photography) have been using Sterlingtek too and they are all very happy with that brand.

I just recently got the Sterlingtek replacement, and it seems to last around 3 hours, although I haven't really tested it exactly.

Sterlingtek's BP-2L14 equivalent is actually already at 1950 mAh (don't know how, but my friend measured it, far higher than the website's 1700 mAh rating). Sterlingtek's NB-2LH equivalent is rated at the same level as BP-2L13 (1,600 mAh)

Boy, do I feel foolish. I bought the "authentic" Canon which boasts an impressive 1450 mAh! :mad:

don't beat yourself up. In the early days of digital cameras I did the same thing too.

not much. If anything, it stabilizes the camera even more due to the additional weight.
