I have a pair of xtant x1244 dvc subs. The leads from the cone to the speaker connectors snapped and was wondering if this is just an east solder fix. Has anyone done this? The guy at my local car audio shop said running them dpwn to 1ohm makes the tinsel heat up and become brittle which would cause it to break. They are rated to play at 1ohm so I wouldn't think they would snap like this.
Yah I don't really buy the 1ohm thing either. Now maybe he meant by running your amp at 1ohm your running more power into the subs?.?. I'm not familiar with those subs in particular but some subs suffer from tinsel lead slap which basically means the tinsel lead routing/design isn't the best thus the leads move alot and they hit the cone etc. As with any piece of wire you keep bending it eventually can weaken. Not sure this is what happened but I thought I'd mention it.
As to a fix...I don't know if resoldering them will hold but if they're out of warranty and your only other options are to pay for a repair or replacement then i'd try to solder it first.
