In hope of having better longevity and lower dropout rate on the HDV recording I want to use Sony HDV tapes. However, the best Canadian price I find thus far is CAD$14 including taxes (a tad cheaper than buying the same tape online + shipping).

Is there any other place anybody can recommend? In the GTA, of course.

I just purchased a pak of 15 from Hong Kong on eBay. Good vendor, good shipping & information (automatically sent me the tracking #). Sent by Hongkong Post and delivered by Canada Post. They just arrived today. The cost was just under $10 USD per tape including shipping. Certainly cheaper than buying locally.

the ones I see right now is about US$9 per tape (pack of 9) plus US$13 shipping so it's about US$11 per tape, which is essentially $13 per tape, with the risk of paying import duties. Not much of a savings, IMO, considering the risk. Especially when my source's minimum purchase is only 3 tapes.

The one I bought was a pk of 15. It was 8.38/tape + 19.99 Shipping. There are no duties, at worst there are taxes (in Canada as well) but I had to pay none. It was sent as a gift worth $20.

my fault, I mean tax + Canada Post handling fee (about $6 + taxes).

Yah, there is not a lot of savings. A bit more with the ones that I bought but to me, better in my pocket than theirs. There was no handling fee or taxes that I had to pay. Their could be fut for me there was none so my cost came out to maybe $11.50-11.75 ea and with 15 tapes gave me a few extra bucks to put towards the miniSD card I had to buy, or the extra batteries, or the HDMI cable, or...
