NHT's 6.2 Ultimate System is a Crowd Pleaser
by Bob Archer

You could make the argument that Now Hear This (NHT) was the first company to popularize electronic EQ in a consumer loudspeaker product when it introduced its Xd system.

Looking back on that product introduction I can remember listening to the system in a suite at CES and thinking it sounded great. Its application, though, was limited due to the fact that it was a two-channel system that utilized bookshelf speakers.

Today, NHT has addressed those limitations through the release of its "ultimate" system, which combines six of the XdS speakers, two of its XdW subwoofers, three of its XdA amplifiers and its home-theater processor.

In addressing those limitations the company has in turn created a fabulous-sounding system that looks great, sounds great and perhaps most importantly for installers, sets up in a flash.

Features
Like some of the other products and systems we've looked at recently, NHT's 6.2 ultimate system has too many features to list. With that said, I can list some of the basics. The Xd is a two-way speaker that incorporates a 5.25-inch woofer and 1-inch tweeter. When connected to the companion four-channel XdA amplifier, the speakers are bi-amplified by a PowerPhysics Class D power section that's rated at 150 watts per channel.

The XdA also houses the system's complex EQ technologies, which were designed by DEQX. The XdW subwoofer incorporates a Class D 500-watt amplifier and a pair of 10-inch drivers, as well as all of the controls an installer would expect from a sub.
