:( I am having problems with the audio being out of sync with the video on .divx converted files. Files downloaded from the Divx website (Stage6) appear to be synced just fine. The converted files have been created using either StreamClip or Quicktime Player on a G5 Mac. Any suggestions on how to get the syncing working properly? P.S. The Silverscreen is connected to my LCD TV through RCA composite connectors--no other stereo device is involved. Thanks.

did you try to remux the files? you can rename them as .avi; stage6 renames it as .divx after uploading to it.

i'm guessing you created the files yourself because you know how they've been encoded. have you tried playing it on your lacie right after encoding? is it synced then?

any issues with other encodes or downloads from stage6?

Thanks afx for the reply. I am new to this gadget as well as to the whole A/V thing. I have not tried to remux the files. I will see if that works. I have, however, tried exporting as .avi files (using Quicktime) but they are not recognized by the Silverscreen.

As you guessed, I have created (converted, really) all of the files that are troublesome. Interestingly, they all play fine with the Divx Player v.1.04 on my iMac, including those that reside on the Silverscreen hard drive. So my iMac handles the files in the Silverscreen HD folders without a hitch. However, playing files through the TV right after transfer to the Silverscreen, exhibits the slight out-of-sync problem. I guess it is about 1/4 sec off which is enough to be irritating.

It occurs to me that it might be worth a try to get some .avi files off the web and see if they play well. If all is well, then it might be a matter of fiddling with export/convert settings in Quicktime or Streamclip to get it to work. What do you think?

Last, the divx files that I have gotten from stage6 work great. Most of these files are music videos (Sub Pop Records) but some are larger movie files in the 500 Mb range.

i think i might have misunderstood your first post?

you're downloading from stage6, and they download as .divx files (i know this as well because i've downloaded off of there before). i'm guessing the lacie doesn't understand this extension and it won't play them? and this is why you are re-encoding them? in my first post, i mentioned that you can just change the .divx extension to .avi then let your lacie play it. report your findings.

or are you encoding other formats into avi so the lacie can read it?

like you said it, download sample avi files.

afx, apologies for the lack of clarity. I have done both the downloading of .divx files from Stage6, AND the conversion of other file types (from other sources) to .divx. The downloaded .divx files work fine when transferred directly to the Silverscreen, so the Lacie understands them. No problems there. It is the converted files (e.g., MPEG-4 to .divx) that are out-of-sync. I have also tried encoding MPEG-4 to .AVI and those resulting files are not recognized by the Lacie at all, although .AVI are listed as compatible.

I will be downloading some .avi files (as well as others that are listed as compatible) soon to follow that route and see what happpens. I like the idea behind the Silverscreen--it's really an issue of finding content to fill it with (somethng other than music videos). Unfortunately, the Lacie documentation is not very helpful regarding compatibility.
