Can we get a summary of the upcoming 1080p panels for the coming year (or currently out) that are larger than 50" ? It seems that 50" is a magic number, but I already have a 50" RP-CRT, and I'm only going to buy a new set if its a true upgrade to something I want to keep for 10 years.

A 58 or 60" would be ideal, but any over 50" would be a possibility. I'm 10' from the screen. I also have an HD-DVD player, and high-dev cable.

Features that I'm concerned about are:

1) Black level. I do watch movies in the dark.
2) 1:1 pixel mapping. Not a killer, but with the type of money, I'd like to be able to use the computer or video games -- and 1:1 is simply going to have less artifacts when viewing HD-DVD.
3) 1080p 24 fps. This is likely going to be the hardest one. It seems only certain projectors really display this at a multiple of 24 fps. Even the 120 Hz LCD panels seem to be converting to 60 fps first, before going to 120, meaning that you are not getting a true multiple of 24. It would be nice to watch movies without the 6 Hz jitter from the 3:2 pulldown. Of course, I may have to upgrade my HD-DVD player. But, the panel is to last 10 years, so I don't want lose this possibility for 10 years.

I've seen the Pioneer Pro FH-D1 (or some such number), and I found it awesome in the showroom, but didn't actually check out the features I mention. Also, it's only 50".

Can we get a list, and answers to the 3 questions so that I (and maybe some others) can start saving up? Thanks.

Panasonic will have a 58"PZ700U

with 1080p resolution available soon. From what I heard it will have a 1:1 pixel mode but it will not have 24p. It may accepts 24p but internally will transfer them into 60p.

Pioneer 8G

will most likely also introduce new 1080p models (60" for your request) but not many real facts are known so far. Still, I think that they will have 24p and 1:1 pixel mode. 24p is important for Pioneer and their Bluray player was one of the first to deliver that. Their Plasmas accept 24p since the 6G if I'm correct. We probably will know more on May 7th when they present them.

Phillips has a (60" or) 63" 1080p model in its new line up for 07

I think that price was ~ 5999 MSRP but I don't know anything about 1:1 pixel mode nor 24p feature.

MSRP on the Panasonic 58PZ700U 58" 1080p is $4799. Street prices should be about $1000 less.

The Pioneer 60" Super Plasma with 1080P should meet your needs and I'm almost certain it'll do 24p and there are only a handful of sets that do.

It's the only plasma I would consider but actually would prefer larger than 60" but not a fan of Panny having been a disappointed owner of the 50". :)

I think that's wishful thinking and more than likely won't happen for awhile (Black Friday and the holidays). A $500.00 drop off of MSRP is more likely in my opinion as they aren't competing with much else in that price range for a 1080p plasma in that size range.

Vizio hopes to release a 60" 1080p plasma at <$5000 this fall.
