Ha, I don't think I'll have enough time for anything more than a quickie because my Rocket 850s, 300s, and 200 will be here any minute. And they'll need even more love than the sub. :p

Today is a good day.

SVS should just go ahead and put that pic right on their front page. Says everything that needs to be said... :)

I think you just bought my DREAM HT system as far as speakers are concerned...Rocket 850s, 300s, and 200.

You lucky dog!!!

Ok I have a question. Well I probably have a hundred questions, I am a newbie after all. But here's my first...

I only have one electrical outlet under the screen, so 2 places to plug things in. I have or will have the following devices: new sub, LPA-1, receiver, xbox 360, Wii, Satellite stb, hd-dvd player, router, cable modem, harmony dock.

Is it safe to have them all using the two outlets? If so, what kind of reasonably priced power conditioner/surge protector do you guys recommend to plug all those into? Thanks!

I like to go with a full blown UPS. You can pay anywhere from 100 - 1000 bucks.

Too bad it's blurry. I look like a kid on Christmas.

Who's the fat chick?? :)

Your gonna have lots of fun! Your room doesn't look huge, so you will
get major bass out of your sub. I have heard great things about Rockets,
Have never heard them myself though.

I would definatley let everything break in. Set everything up and run
a movie or cd. Play everything loud.

Come back a week later and calibrate everything again.

Plug the sub directly into the wall, everything else you can plug into a powerstrip.

Yep, my room is 13x22x9. Average size I would say. Do you guys think I should run the sub at 16, 20, or 25 hz? I guess I'll have to see how much SPL I get.

ghotihead,

What did you pay for it? From the date you order, when did it arrived?

Thanks,

Run it at 25 with all ports open :D

I'm not really a fan of port plugging....thats how you run into port chuffing at lower freq...

At MOST....1 port plugged at 20hz....thats it...

After hearing this beast I was planning on plugging both ports because even at around 10 o'clock on the gain dial it's just toooo loud, so I figured I might as well go for extra extension. Unfortunately my neighbor's house is only 10 feet from my room so I don't really want to break all the china in her house, do I? What do the rest of you think about plugging the ports and potentially encountering "port chuffing"? (No idea what that is.)

Well I got the Rockets in but I've only set up the 850s so far. I'm actually still deciding where I should put the dipoles so I'm planning on taking a few pics of the back of my room and asking on the speakers forum. Plus my camera started acting up and actually gave me a "lens error" but I was able to snap a few pics.

Be gentle, the room is a work in progress and I know I need to work on some things (LPA-1, Denon 3808 most likely in the next few months, not to mention wire management and some much needed decor) but I'm pretty proud of what I've done so far considering this is my first theater of any kind and I'm still pretty inexperienced with the whole thing. I'm only 26 not like some of you old farts so this will only get better.

Why don't you just try it? It won't take too much effort.

Xbox live is mindblowing. Lots of very loud COD3 going on in my house at all hours.

I only listened to the SVS with music for about half an hour, and I kept turning the gain up and down trying to figure out where I was satisfied. I definitely felt like it was a little boomy but I'm not used to LFE like that and there will some adjustment time I assume. Plus, I haven't worked on placement yet so there's a lot of calibration still to be done. However, I didn't really buy the sub for music since I was 100% HT. I say WAS because the clarity of these Rockets is so good I can definitely see myself starting to just sit down and listening to some loud stuff more often.

Yep, definitely the plan for this weekend. But since I'm new to high quality audio it could take me a while to know which one sounds better. Often I hear differences without being able to definitively decide what sounds good and what sounds bad. I was just wondering what other people thought about potential port chuffing.

I don't know much about SVS subs but since it looks like you have a smaller room, I'd say to go for the 16hz tune. It shouldn't take much power to fill that room with bass.

I was sold the sub you bought, til I went to their factory. THey didn't have one in the showroom, nor did they have one in stock. I would have bought one, as the same sub in the sub/2 in piano black looked gorgeous. I settled with a 3.3 with turbo, and my room is a bit more than double yours, and I am thrilled, that beast should rattle your little hairs on your feet with socks and shoes on. Enjoy, let us know how you like it...

Chris whats up man! How are things going!

ghotihead....I think your set up is sweet....I'm also only 27 and you are ahead of me...those rockets look badass....you def have a very nice set up!

Your room is small....I think 100% you can plug both ports and try the 16hz mode. I think you'll have the headroom.....but if you hear some chuffing and port noise during scenes like WOTW and FOTP and PULSE....then simply run it with only 1 port plugged in 20hz mode. That is the beauty of the sub you bought...you have 3 different tuning options to play with and try.... Only time and testing will tell....and it is all realitive to your ears and your ears only. Pick the one you like the best and feel good about making the choice :D

So how do the rockets sound.....thats what I'm curious about...

Also...what are your room dimensions by the way...(sealed room or open room)

Good luck!'

ps...on port chuffing. You are ONLY going to notice this during a few scenes that are REALLY LOW, and only if you really crank up the volume. In that small of a room I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you'll like 16hz and that you probably won't even notice any chuffing at all! I'm just a total basshead and I have an ear for any chuffing or noise there is...

not much Brad, been kinda busy. My spring break came and went. I gotta go to AZ in two weeks. I am waiting on the invite to check out the 16-46. I think I am gonna add another HO with turbo to my setup.

Movies that I just watched that were very good and entertaining....
Departed
Smokin Aces

Movies I demoed to check out Bass for the first time.
see above
+ FOTP and Casino Royale

Movies that need to be tested by you asap
Smokin Aces, the scene I added to Dr. Pain's list, it is insanely loud, but not super deep. The hardest any movie has hit to date, just not the deepest.

Get an RS SPL Meter so that you can dial in the Gain, Phase, and Crossover best fit for your room.

We'll set up a session up here for sure.....a 2nd HO....honestly I'd just get another 3.3 with turbo and put them side by side....I think you'll find most agree with me on that reccomendation too!

I'm going to try to get my hands on Smokin Aces too....I think my buddy just bought it..

hey just wanted to bump and ask how your setup is as of recent. I'm considering SVS sub's for my room, whether it be a PB12-NSD/2 or perhaps 2 separate PB12-NSD's (my room is 28x15x7.5) or even the cylinders.

What settings did you find to be your sweet spot for sound?
