You can pick any difficulty you want when its your turn. I know I haven't made it into the expert level yet. I am just now finishing up hard level.

I was lucky to get 140+ on my first go since i've been getting a lesser score each time i try it again.. lol

Here's mine.........Perfect, lol. This took about 5 tries or so. I still had a tiny bit of star power at the end of the song though, so a better score is definitly possible.

Well dang, I could has sworn tonight's song was "Message in the Bottle"!!! I've been driving the wife crazy with that song, and I still couldn't get past TheJokell's high score. :o

My problem is I've mastered this song expert and I basically go by ear now and medium forced me to read every note again. We'll see how things go on harder difficulties/songs.

i think i'm tired of the song, i always screw up on easy parts. if its not a note or two, it's an sp sequence, i've gotten 100% 6 or 8 times, but i keep screwing up the SP phrase timings and getting worse scores than my 98-99% runs.

i might give a try or two in the morning or before the end of the contest, but other than that, i'm fine with sitting at 2nd place... again

formulanerd: The best Star Power path to take is a 2-3-2-3-2 (i.e. activate after the first two, then after the next 3, then the next 2, etc...). Although it is tricky to know how much whammy to use, as it's easy to whammy too much and have one set of star power last too long and you wind up missing a phrase.

In the statistics on each song, the Phrases represents the number of phrases (series of notes) that will give you star power for hitting all of them.

If someone is talking about SP paths, that means a plan/road map on how many SP phrases to collect before activating star power to boost your multiplyer. Guys at places like scorehero study the note charts of each song to determine how to get and use the most star power, and therfore the best score.

Haha, that stuffs way over my head for this game. When I get Star Power, unless there's a long streak of only a few notes or none at all, I use it right away.

I figured that there were some people doing that. The 2-3-2-3-3 thing caught my interest. If I know the song, I typically just try to wait to use it until I know that there are a ton of notes coming, or a whole slew of chords in a row. Got 211K On Possum Kingdom last night doing that (medium). Thanks for the excellent answer :-)

1) How do you set the XBox Live Leaderboard options so you can only look at your difficulty level? I didn't see a way to do this. For example I only play on Medium but when I check the leaderboards the top gaziliion scores all all people playing on Expert. Is there a way to filter the Top Scores by song but also by difficulty, and if so, can you please let me know how?

I think this happens when you are currently using Star Power, when a SP note section comes up. You are unable to add to your SP meter when SP is activated.

Im glad they didnt require perfect usage of the SP phrases to obtain a perfect rating on a song.

I just completed the Hard level today. Mostly have 4 and 3 star ratings. I think I got around 8 to 10 songs at 5 stars. Of course, none of them were perfect. I was able to jump right into the Expert level and knock out the first 5 songs without failing. Those all resulted in 3 stars. Now, I can concentrate on improving the Hard level results while drubbing through the Expert level.

Yeah to maximize your score you have to find good "paths" to use your star power so you play a lot of notes with SP on and don't overlap. Check out the scorehero.com forums for everything (and more) you ever wanted to know about SP paths and squeezing every last point out of a song.

Those guys study and analyze the game at an unhealthy level! :p

DISCLAIMER: I don't actually use any of the techniques since I'm happy just to pass most of the songs on hard. I'm a bit away from worrying about maximum scores.. :)

Makes sense. Its too bad though that you cannot tell when SP is activated whether any notes you are hitting are SP notes (since they are just light blue and not marked with a star). As a result its difficult to know what passages you're messing up because of this. If it was indicated then at least you'd know "ok, next time I have to use my half full SP right away"...

It's more than a matter of full/half full. There is specific timing to hit all SP phrases and use all your star power. www.scorehero.com is a great place to find out how it can be achieved in each song.

honestly you cant sort, i knew what the highest score was (or close to it) from score hero, then i just scrolled up and counted the other hard scores (since there weren't that many)

hopefully they update this in the future so you can sort by difficulty.

Yea I'm doing the same now as well. I have just 2 or 3 left in the 8th set list and that'll be it. However those are proving to be a bit out of hand (pun intended!).

Got stuck on Psychobilly Freakout for a while, then finally manged to 5-star it with a score around 90k. Funny thing is that now when I go back to it I can't score more than 70k or so. It was one of those magical runs that got me through it so that I could move on and never have to think about that song again. But then found myself coming back to play it afterwards anyway because it grew on me. Enough can't be said about this game. I've been playing it pretty much non-stop since I got it and I'm still not sick of it...
