View Full Version : Adjustible Stand for tabletop projectors

I recently purchased a DV10 to use for movie viewings in the living room. I am pairing it with a 100" Elite EZ screen, and everything is great other than the fact that adjusting for the best fit on the screen is a trial and error process that makes me want to break things.

Are there any short (4-6" tall or so) stands that allow for complete tilt control in every direction? I'm picture something like a base plate, a locking ball joint, and another plate for the projector (think TIE fighter on its side). Is there anything like this on the market? I've looked but with no luck.

Thanks.

Chief mounts are commonly used to hang projectors from the ceiling, but if you do a ceiling type mount and attach it to a piece of wood or something as a base and add some rubber feet I think you would have what you are looking for.

Are you sure that 4-6' is short enough? I guess it depends on the height of your screen and the distance to it, but my DV10 sits on a 2' table, and I still have to use the back legs to tip it down some.

I've been sitting it on the floor and tilting it way down with books behind it, and it's been fine. I guess 2' or so would be better, but I was trying to keep it low profile if at all possible. This would also negate the need for a larger base to keep it from being top heavy.

I have used printer paper stacks to adjust. You can get fine adjustments by adding or removing sheets.

You might want to consider this option:

That's perfect for the height, now I just need something to control pitch/etc. I think the floor in my apartment is not perfectly level, because even laying flat on the floor the image has a bit of tilt to it. It took 3 autoweek magazines under one side to get the picture completely level the last time I used it.

Sorry, I misread. I thought for some reason you said 4-6 feet! :) That's why I thought you were going too high.

You are using the adjustable feet on the back, right? You can set them independently from each other to correct for uneven floor or whatever.

I feel like I'd like to bolt mine down! No sooner do I get it set exactly right than my son and his friends come in and hook up their Xbox 360 and get it back off center.

You could buy a couple of rubber door stops. WalMart has a pair for less than $2 (any other department store will carry them, or even the home centers). The door stops will allow nearly infinite adjustments by sliding them under the projector. That way you could use just about any stand you find that fits the height you need. This approach has worked great for me. Cheap and extremely effective! Good luck.

I use an adjustable lap top computer stand. Works great! Costs about $50
