View Full Version : Disc error - Gears of war
meegari 04-19-07, 09:39 PM Hi there just wanted to know if any of you have experienced unreadable disc error when playing GOW, the xbox makes a weird scratching noise then i get the error, doesnt happen on any other game, Its really frustrating as my disc is perfect no scratches but i keep getting this error at least once everytime i play online and i have to restart the game. I know some of the peeps online ive played with say they get this error.
Several people I know have gone through this. Make sure the edge of the hole in the center is not chipped or frayed in any way. Unfortunatly, I'm not sure there is much you can do other than buy a new disc. Perhaps others can be more helpful.

The 360 is the problem..
Had one of those tonight. Rebooted and it went away. Nothing at all wrong with the disc and never did it on the premium I sold a few weeks ago. The premium I have now is a week old and the drive has a different tray and is much noisier than the the one I sold which was bought around the first of the year.
I'm sure circuit city will be happy to have it back when i get my elite in a week or so.
I've had the same exact problem on my 360 with Gears and other games at times. The fix I've found that works for me is to make sure I open the drive tray after every start-up and then close it again. If you shutdown the 360, and upon start-up launch into the game without opening the drive the error is VERY likely to occur depending on how long you play. I have no idea why this works, but it does.
I had the same thing, only happened twice during the single player campaign for me. My 360 is only 2 months old and is not used all that often.
same here... the drive gets that small " click, click, clik,click... then a noticable spin down, the a few more clicks, then a "this disc is unreadable"error". however I've also only noticed it on Gears of War. No other game does this to me, however I do get random slow down in disc speed in other games yet they always spin up again when needing to load something.

Same here. Only happens like that in GOW
chadly25 04-20-07, 09:27 AM I had the same problem a while back. I got the "error" message once every hour or two. Then it began appearing more frequently. It got to the point that I almost sold mine to buy a new one. And it only did it on GOW. What I did to fix the problem, I changed the orientation of my 360. I used to have it verticle, but I turned the unit so that it was horizontal. I did this three months ago and have not had a disc error since. Not sure if this solution will solve everyone's errors, but it sure did mine. BTW my disc was not at all scratched either.
So all of those with problems like this, who's xbox is verticle??
roachxp 04-20-07, 09:35 AM Happens to me and my brothers on R6 Vegas, on all 4 360's. it's an xbox thing.

Mine is horizontal and I still get the error.

Must be two different problems because mine occured when I loaded the disc after starting the system up which seemed to cure your fix. Or did it, you said you still get the error?

My system is placed horizontally, but I still get the error. I only get it though when I go the 'Play Game' option after starting up the system and I have NOT opened the tray to load the disc previously. When I have opened the tray and closed it prior to playing a game, I have never received the error.

I also realized that disk reading issues (at start up) are worse after a couple of hours playing some games (when the drive gets hot) and if I swap disks often (like when I show my games to a friend). I also do the open tray trick and if that doesn't work, I turn the 360 off for a few minutes (2 - 5) to cold things down and after that, everything loads just fine.

GOW is the only game that I have seen this problem... other games work find...
talyler 04-20-07, 01:13 PM Haha this is funny because it happened to me for the first time last night. Exactly like you described it in the first post.
I rebooted my 360 and it worked fine. My 360 with GoW has been acting up a lot lately. I get a lot of lag even playing campaign, and it freezes often (but always unfreezes after a couple seconds). I don't remember having this problem in the past...
