USB to Firwwire Hub/Router?

I have run out of PCI slots on my PC and can not take out any existing PCI cards make room for a Firewire card. Given that, is there a device (hub or router) that can connect to my USB port that I can then connect a IEEE 1394 plug into? Also, how well do these work?

Example.

PC--->USB--->HUB--->Firwire--->Camcorder

Does one of your cards happen to be a USB card? If so, you can replace it with a card that has both USB and IEEE 1394. IOGear has one for $30-$40 (or less) new.

IOGear is not the only one ... also in the running are GWC Technology and Vigor Electronics and a couple of others.

Best advise on FireWire chips sets on plug in cards is the Agree' chips = more FireWire video channels, better reliability.

I picked up a pinnacle usb video capture box (since I can't get my Sony camcorder firewire connection working). It has audio, video, and *firewire*.

might want to give that a try...

I don't have a way to test this functionality. I connected my laptop via the front FW port, (while the box was connected to another PC via USB). My laptop wanted to install the hardware (pinnacle box) but I didn't have the disk handy. From why I see this may be the bridge you are looking for. Hope you can find it for the price I did (not that I was looking for this functionality)

(This would be the very first devices known to man that converts between USB and FireWire other than a host computer. It may be that there exists a USB port on the advertised device, but I could not find it in the literature or the manual or the pictures ... ?? :confused: )

yes. Like I said, I couldn't test the functionality fully, for bridging. There is a usb port on the back (b-type). I may have some time in the next couple of days to check it out, altho the firewire port on my sony camcorder is hosed (which is why I bought this capture device to begin with).
