I posted this in the Firewire thread, but it looks like that thread doesnt get much traffic. I figured that many of you use Firewire and may have a solution for me.

I have run out of PCI slots on my PC and can not take out any existing PCI cards to make room for a Firewire card. My USB ports are integrated into my motherboard. It looks like my only option, should I stay with this computer, would be to get some external device or adapter that connects to my computer using USB. Given that, is there a device (hub or router) that can connect to my USB port that I can then connect a IEEE 1394 plug into? Also, how well do these work?

Example.

PC--->USB--->HUB--->Firwire--->Camcorder

I did find something like this.

I think that is a bad idea... I'm not certain your computer would be able to recognize your camcorder traveling through all those jumps. I can almost assure you that IF that path did work you will be dropping a lot of frames during capture.

How is your PC configured (all internal components)? Maybe if I had more detail I could suggest alternative solutions.

FYI... that link is no good.

It would probably work better if you added a USB hum and took out one device attached to your computer and plugged it into the hub leaving a spot directly into your computer for the USB/Firewire card.

Also check your motherboard book. Some boards have more USB's available but do not come with the adapter. You can then buy one and have either 2 or 4 more ports available.
