Hello! Long time reader, finaly registered so I can post.

I work for a mid size movie theater chain. We are trying to set up 720p HDTV displays in the lobby of our theaters to show coming attractions (no Ads, We don't do that sort of thing. You are hear to see a movie, not be blasted with ads for Body Spray and such). I'm trying to find a Media player that will work for this, but I'm running into all kinds of problems. Here is what I am trying to find:

#1. It needs to output via Component. The monitors have HDMI, but it is easier for me to split component and run it to all the monitors at once (2 in each lobby, back to back on a display). Unless someone out there knows of a reliable and cheap HDMI "splitter."

#2. It needs to run Quicktime HD or something that easily converted to from Quicktime HD. Most of the time the Studios only have a Quicktime version for us. Its pretty rare to get a WMA, and even more rare that they have a divx version. If you know of a program that will convert .mov to something easier to find a player for, I'm all ears. I've tried using Quicktime Pro via its export, but it never seems to come out right.

#3. Network update of content. It would be nice to be able to do this from the main office Via a VPN, but having the theater managers do it from the office computer would work.

#4. It needs to repeat a playlist. I really just want the managers to walk in, hit play on it let it go for the day.

Any ideas or am I asking for too much?

I have tried a MediaGate MG-25 and a AppleTV. The AppleTV is pretty close, but it has no way of doing video playlists or any format but.mov. The MG-25 I have yet to get to reliably run any file I've converted to .mp4 or .dvix.

ANY advice or direction would help!
Thanks!

The output via component is going to be your sticking point. I know of only a couple that have component outs, and max resolution is 480p. And if you ever find a 'cheap' HDMI splitter, let us know.

I think your best bet is feeding via computer. Good luck.

Gefen makes resonably inexpensive HDMI splitters (check gefen.com) -1x2 is around $300. Unless you want real matrix splitter (those are a bit pricey)
