Please help me out. I have a Screen play 4805, it needs repair (probably bulb) and the warrantee co is making this offer. "Upgrade" to the IN 72 for $299, where as I could have them fix the 4805 for free. To me that seems steep for the new one. Is the IN 72 much better than the 4805.... What would you do?

how many total hours on your 4805 and is the IN72 a refurb? what kind of warranty with it and is it a new lamp?
do you have to buy a new lamp regardless for the 4805?
The IN72 is marginally better. The IN72 is absolutely not worth $299 more unless you have a whole lot of hours on your lamp.

mt's right, BUT, if you were happy with your 4805 and you have to buy a new bulb, you're going to be paying over $300 anyway. if the IN72 has a new lamp (not just reset) and comes with at least some sort of warranty it might be a pretty good deal. you'll get a 2nd digital input (HDMI), sealed optics and a nicer case.
the one thing i noticed from the 4805 to in72 is that the 72 is ever so slightly softer. calibrater's have commented that the 4805 standard setting was not quite accurate. i've heard both stories. it's definitely got a little better contrast though and a nice bright picture like the 4805.
/edit
maybe i'm misunderstanding. is the $299 on top of the price of a new lamp for the 4805?

I've been assuming it's the bulb that's the problem. I don't know how many hours it has because it won't turn on. I have the extended circuit city warantee which covers bulb. I assume, I'll call and clarify that the bulb would be covered by them. Iif not do I have to wait for the CC warantee to kick in.... The deal as I understood it, a new bulb for the 4805 for free or a new IN 72 for $299.

The way I look at it, get the free bulb. With the way the prices are dropping on projectors, you might be able to pick up an IN72 for $299 ANYWAY, in the not too distant future. Why give up a free bulb? :)

Ok, I called and realized my wife was going to the wrong place. She was talking to Infocus Warantee support, they weren't even going to cover the bulb. No wonder they were going for the sell of the replacement IN72. I called Circuit City, who I got the extended warantee, and they are sending out the bulb. That was great. I would highly recommend getting an extended warantee if it covers the bulb. I'm already ahead cost wise.
Looking forward to getting my "less expensive than now" 1080p projector when this bulb dies.
