Running 848x480 from laptop DVI to HDMI adapter. Video shows up as 1080i according the IN72 and is scaled and looks terrible. Tried it at 60 and 72Hz and it didn't look any better. Tried all cropping options too...nothing.
Advice?
I've ordered the DVI-to-M1 adapter but was hoping to use this the HDMI option as a stop-gap.

what card and driver?
i can get 854x480 with 6600gt and whql drivers from last fall dvi both with dvi to hdmi and dvi to m1.
Argh.
The widest I can go is 720x480. Anything higher and it is scaled badly.
When I look in my Nvidia control panel, it lists all the HD resolutions (under custom timings) except 480p. 720x480, 720x657,etc. all the way up to 1080p.
Does HDMI not support 848/854x480?

you need to add a custom timing. it won't be there as a default.
I've tried making custom timings a few times now.
848x480, 854x480, even 800x480. All of them look terrible. Some, when selected, just bring up a bunch of digital jibberish or overlapping images.
Maybe I won't have this issue with the M1 port when my adapter arrives?
I tried installing the newest Forceware and now all I get no matter what I do is a small window of a very scaled desktop in the middle of my screen. Great.
Tried it at 60 and 72Hz and it didn't look any better. The IN72 does not support 72Hz.
Everything over 60Hz is down-converted to 60Hz. :(
48/1.001 and 60/1.001 are OK.

I could have sworn the Infocus site says the vertical sync range is 50 - 85Hz. I'm not talking Khz (horizontal bandwidth).

Fair enough, I see the down-conversion point.
Finally.
After a full week of tinkering with my laptop I found out what the problem was.
For some reason, the Nvidia 7900GS "Advanced Timings" option would default to 1920 on the Horizontal "back end active" and 1080 on the Vertical "back end active". I was only concentrating on the horizontal and vertical front end by setting them at 848 and 480 and didn't notice the other set of variables.
I don't know what I did...but it works. And it is beautiful.
