I will be picking up their HD box Monday. They have not been able to tell me what exact model. I figure that the box will come with regular component cables. My problem is that I already have both of my component inputs on my tv being used already (xbox 360, dvd). I have 3 hdmi's open on the tv... I am just wondering if there is a hdmi dvi connection possible with Charter's HD box.

it will most likely be a motorolla 6400 box.

well, here's to hoping I get a box with more than just a component ouput! otherwise, it looks like i'll be switching cables around every time i decide to play 360.

Talked to 3 people at charter today. I asked if I could use the DVI to HDMI. The box does indeed have a dvi output... but i had read that for some reason the dvi was disabled on this charter box. So, technician number one responds with "I really dont know what a DVI is... aren't all Charter HD boxes dvr's? :sigh: Tech 2: "Let me pull that info up for you... OK yes you only have a component input on that box." I respond by saying I am looking at the DVI output on the box. The tech states that she is not seeing that on her computer. :sigh again:. 3rd Tech. "Yes, the DVI will work fine on that particular box, you just have to secure an audio line, because the DVI will not carry audio." Thank you!

On a related note, my movie channels are not working now...nor are my premium HD channels, yet my local HD channels are... through the HD box. Tech is coming out tomorrow afternoon to check it out. I want Planet Earth!

I set a charter box up for my folk last week and we had a similar situation.
We could get everything but the hd locals. the 800# could not enter the right code ande sent out a tech the next morning. He was there about 90 seconds. Called his girl at the home office told her to punch in a code and bingo.. everything was working fine.

Depend on where you are, some SA3250 has DVI enabled and some didn't, like mine from 91803. I had to go through the same ordeal like you, misinformed and wasted times waiting for the cableman to show up and ended up with no DVI ;-(

Cheers,
TP.

Set up a friends Charter cable connection in Birmingham last week, a SA 3250. It has a terrible stretch mode and when you have it on pass through to eliminate the cable stretch mode on HD channels,( it will stretch HD channels if it is not set to "normal") but when it is in normal it will not let the tv set determine the stretch mode for SD channels like Direct TV boxes will let you do so you wind up with black bars on the side of SD channels. I read Mark Rubin's report on the 3250 he wrote back in 2005 but was unable to find any kind of setting that would let the tv set do the stretching of SD channels. Perhaps I overlooked some way of getting this accomplished. Charter tech support had no idea what I was talking about.

Yep! The tech came out yesterday. I told him about the problem. He immediately said ok and walked out the door. I look out and see him just hanging around in his van. He comes back in ten minutes later and says, "Yea, I didn't even need to be here for this. They gave you a box that wasn't "wiped clean" before it was given to me. Sorry about that." He did the same thing by just calling up charter and told them to work their magic.

Just an update for those who may be interested.

The box works great (this particular model)... it doesn't stretch like the other poster said.

I just got my hdmi dvi cable today from monoprice. hooked it right up, pure plug and play. Everything works great!
