Hello! I have a Magnavox 15MF605T in my PJ. It's a 15" LCD TV that is "HD-Ready." I've had an xbox for a long time and it works great at 480p. I just bought a xbox 360 the other day because I wanted to take advantage of the HD (i.e. see how my pj looks at 720p, 1080i ) The 360 works fine at 480, but when I change the settings on the xbox to 720p or 1080i, I get little lines going through the screen. I get an image, and can even play games, but of course the lines are annoying and I want to get it fixed. As soon as I change the settings back to 480p the lines are gone. The TV even shows 720p or whatever in the corner when you change, so it seems like its going into HD, just get the lines.

Called Philips/Magnavox, guy told me to unplug tv for a minute, said I already tried that, told me to send it in.
Called xbox, woman put me on hold for over 5 minutes while she researched the problem, came back and told me to try 1080i, (already told her it happens on 720 and 1080) she said then her recommendation is to keep it on 480 laugh.gif
Called Philips/Mag back and got a different guy. Asked if I needed a HD converter box or something because the TV is just "HD Ready", he said yes that is the problem.

I don't know.. what do you guys think? My friend has a "HD-ready" TV, and it plays his xbox fine at 720p/1080i withouth any type of converter. Any ideas? The xbox cable is set to HD. Also, I don't have any other HD TVs or HD components to test.

Did you go into the xbox options and set the video to 1080?

No it makes no sense to have a converter or w/e. Imagine using it on a computer LCD. which i do. It works fine. what are you using? component, VGA ?

How are you connected? Component or VGA?
Have you tried a different device? Cable box, upscaling DVD player...
Would help you figure out if its the TV or the XBOX...

I'm using the component cable that came with the xbox. I guess I will try my xbox on someone else's HD tv and see what happens.

is the switch on the cable set to HDTV?

i think you'll have better luck with a VGA cable, but i'd double check the supported resolutions, 1024X768 is a low/odd resolution, and i wouldnt say it's very "typical" for an "hd-ready" set.

i also see tons of problems with the reliability of this monitor after 3-6 months (outside of the warranty of course) so i wouldnt be surprised if the monitor crapped out on you.

Just for your own information, a TV being "HD-Ready" means that it lacks a digital over the air tuner. Hence, it cannot receive ATSC HD channels via antenna. Since most folks have their HDTVs hooked up to cable or satellite systems, it's almost a total non-issue. It has nothing to do with the ability of the set to be fed a given signal as an input.

Well, turns out it was the rca audio cables... I have the red and white audio cables from the xbox av unit going into connectors to a longer rca cable. They must of been touching each other and causing interference. They got unplugged on accident and the lines stopped. Hooked up a digital audio cable and HD works great, no problems. Still not sure why in the world the lines only showed up when you switched to 720 or 1080, and looked fine at 480 w/the rca... Oh well, it works... and the games look great :) Can't wait to watch some 720p movies later this week.

I bet people will come and flame you for that now, but seriously it's something good to know, no one would guess that was the problem, at least now if i read someone else having the same problem i'll suggest that, all in all informative thread.
