I've got some videos in XVID format that are on my Windows Vista Ultimate PC that I want to stream to my Xbox 360.

What file format should I convert these to?

What program can I download to do this?

I believe you have to convert them to .wmv format, unless you use a different media server, likle twonkyvision.

must be converted to .wmv files pal,
and i'd suggest using "Any video Converter" which is free and can be found at.. http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/

I've used 5 or 6 of the top video converters and in almost every format this has come out tops on both speed and quality.
Perfect for quick conversions for the 360 my man.

Starting in May the dashboard update will allow Mpeg4 SP and H264 to be played as well.

Last night I was browsing around in "my pictures" area on the Xbox 360 connected to a Windows Vista Ulitmate PC and I found the XVID videos and clicked on them and it played.

I quality wasn't all that great but it did play. Has anyone else done this?

Are you sure they were xvid encoded?

That would be quite a find if in fact you were able play xvid over your 360.... You may want to confirm this and if in fact you do find that you are able to play xvid over your 360 without a 3rd party app. you will want to post ALL the details on the xvid file as well as your 360 setup. You could be somewhat famous if in fact this is actually working as you stated above.....lol

By the way, mpeg 2 works great as well on the 360.. native support is built in if you are running Media Center on your PC.

I would wait until the spring update.

# Added H.264 video support: Up to 10 Mbps peak, Baseline, Main, and High profiles with 2 channel AAC LC.
# Added MPEG-4 Part 2 video support: Up to 5 Mbps peak, Simple Profile with 2 channel AAC LC.
