View Full Version : Samsung BD-UP5000 HD Duo player chat WiFi-Spy 04-23-07, 04:11 PM press release: http://www.samsung.com/PressCenter/PressRelease/PressRelease.asp?seq=20070413_0000338109 BuGsArEtAsTy 04-23-07, 04:20 PM Is this one using the Broadcom BCM7440 SoC? P.S. I like the new forum. Maybe this class of machines will eventually make the format war completely irrelevant. John Ballentine 04-23-07, 04:24 PM If Pioneer, Panny or Sony ever make a dual player - I'll definitely consider it. There are lots of Universal movies I'd like to be able to play (U-571, Borne Identity, Mummy series, Apollo 13, Riddick) - but not enough to warrant owning a seperate HD-DVD player. Probably. Sony? Not a chance! ;) I'd be surprise if they did. Better wait for a Denon, Marantz, Pioneer, etc. instead. swanlee 04-23-07, 04:35 PM All I want is a fully featured Dual Panasonic with DVD-A and SACD support. That would be a true universal player. My current Panasonic BLU-RAY player does well for an odd one half of the formats BLU-RAY and DVD-A. These are like the polar opposites of each high res format. My 360 add-on does well for HD-DVD but down the road I would like to get everything in ONE good player. eightninesuited 04-23-07, 04:56 PM Is this a HDMI 1.3 unit? bferr1 04-23-07, 05:04 PM If it comes out later this year, will it be BD 1.1 compliant? John Ballentine 04-23-07, 05:25 PM Pioneer? Probably. Sony? Not a chance! ;) I'd be surprise if they did. Better wait for a Denon, Marantz, Pioneer, etc. instead. You're right. Sony never will. Although I bought their first released VHS machine back in the mid 1980's. Never thought I'd see that either :D A Denon HD player (either Blu-ray or HD-DVD) would be a dream come true! :) HPforMe 04-23-07, 06:25 PM Full audio codecs, 1080p/24 for blu, 1080p/60 for both, full BD-J and HDi implementation - this sounds like a must buy for me to finally integrate my hardware. DTV TiVo Dealer 04-23-07, 07:31 PM I like LG's second gen and Samsung's new hybrid optical disc HD/SD players. -Robert user4avsforum 04-23-07, 08:09 PM If Pioneer, Panny or Sony ever make a dual player - I'll definitely consider it. Based on the head-to-head reviews you would be better off with a Toshiba BR player  Since they seem to be able to make the best HD players so far :) bferr1 04-23-07, 08:50 PM I like LG's second gen and Samsung's new hybrid optical disc HD/SD players. -RobertRobert, can you please elaborate on LG's G2 model? I haven't heard anything about this one yet. Thanks. PrinceLH 04-24-07, 12:06 AM All I want is a fully featured Dual Panasonic with DVD-A and SACD support. That would be a true universal player. MrBigglesworth 04-24-07, 12:28 PM I too would like some additional information if you can spare it Robert. QuadESL63 04-24-07, 01:20 PM All I want is a fully featured Dual Panasonic with DVD-A and SACD support. That would be a true universal player. Panasonic never embraces SACD (don't want to pay for the license fees?)... I don't think they will put that in even if they were to include HD-DVD later in their players. This Samsung should be interesting if it did support all the "bells and whistles" of both HD formats. However, I'd rather see a true universal players from Denon, Marantz and/or Pioneer based on their SD-DVD universal track records. BlackMR2 04-24-07, 10:18 PM Yeh a Denon player would be awesome. they make great gear vancouver 04-24-07, 11:30 PM I am hoping a "dual" player will also be able to play DVD A. Big J 04-25-07, 10:46 AM Does anyone know when this will hit the streets? J Chris Gerhard 04-25-07, 10:59 AM Does anyone know when this will hit the streets? J I don't think anybody can know definitively yet. The best guess I have read in my opinion is early 4th quarter this year. J http://www.twice.com/article/CA6435582.html rdjam 04-25-07, 05:45 PM This will be a great player for those considering buying a Bluray only standalone player for an equivalent price. It has a lot more features than most of the BD standalone players, such as Ethernet networking, TruHD and DTS-HD decoding and it will be BD-Video 1.1 compliant (unlike current BD players) and fully HDi compliant (unlike the LG first-gen player). It also does 1080p and even 1080p24 for BD discs. It may not the perfect player for those looking at HD DVD standalone players, since the HD DVD players are a lot less expensive and have most of the same features anyway, and certain HD DVD players are also going to do 1080p24 for HD DVD discs, unlike the Sammy. Also, the HD DVD players have been widely acclaimed as having the best PQ. So once you add it up, no one should buy a BD standalone player without taking a look at this Samsung. SED <--- Rules 04-27-07, 11:40 PM If the 2nd generation LG dual player supports everything the Sammy dual player will have AND supports 24fps for both formats, then I'll be getting the LG :) tausifs 04-28-07, 05:38 AM If the 2nd generation LG dual player supports everything the Sammy dual player will have AND supports 24fps for both formats, then I'll be getting the LG :) Me too ! blakeBBY 05-20-07, 05:42 AM If the 2nd generation LG dual player supports everything the Sammy dual player will have AND supports 24fps for both formats, then I'll be getting the LG :) Yea plus the Reon HQV scaling chip for SD upconversion and HD playback too. |
