Given the huge sales success of Planet Earth, is anyone planning one of those "get togethers" with friends/family when it arrives? I've heard of people doing this with some of the mainstream TV shows like Grey's Anatomy (my wife did one when my niece was on it), Lost, or Desperate Housewives.

I can't think of better material to enjoy company with - you're learning about our home, you get to enjoy a visual spectacle, and you know you're not going to have some unexpected inappropriate content that may offend, with the possible exception of some unlucky meal for a hungry tiger. ;)

My parents, friends and my girlfriend were all extremely excited to hear I bought Planet Earth on BR.

They've all asked at one point or another to be able to watch it.

Might have to cater to them with a party or something ;)

Not sure why i didn't think of it first... Good idea.

So, anyone got this in either format yet? I'm interested in hearing reports of the quality.

There's this: http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/planetearth.html

My HD DVD copy comes today. My parents and bro are coming over to check it out.

I got mine yesterday, and it looks awesome... I'd even venture to say it's better than the broadcast version, though that could just be me wanting to feel good about my HD-DVD player ;) ... I will say that I like Sigourney Weaver's annotation better than Mr. Attenborough's, but it's still pretty good. It would have been nice if hers were on a secondary audio track, but I think some of the footage may be a little different between the BBC and Discovery... not a lot, but enough that the audio might not match up exactly.

I am having a party in a few weeks, and plan to have it playing, at least until people ask me to turn on the Wii :P

Its amusing to me to see the whole different type of people who post on here. Ive never even heard of this planet earth thing or know anyone whos watched it except for the people on here. Not a bad thing i guess, just a comment.

That surprises me since, at least at Amazon, it is the best selling hidef disc in either format right now. Your sig suggests you have a whole bunch of BD's so you might want to add this one to your collection if it turns out to be the show piece many say it is.
