Recieved my Planet Earth boxset from warnerbrothers.com today and to my suprise, it WILL NOT play on my Xbox 360 HD-DVD player..NONE of the 4 discs!! It causes my 360 to freeze up! The only screens that it makes it to is the fbi warning screen, 2 entertain screen, and bbc video screen..after that the system completely locks up! The disc even stops spinning in the drive. I've tried rebooting, taking out the power cable and plugging in again, replugging the usb cable..nothing works. I know my drive isn't dead because it plays my other HD-DVD discs just fine.. anyone have any clue whats going on? :confused: Thanks.

Edit: After helpful posts from members here and from Amazon, found out all I needed to do was update my 360. Plugged in my ethernet cable, made sure it was signed in online, popped the disc in, and it prompted for an update. Works flawlessly now. Thanks everyone!

Just emailed their customer service center..will probably give them a call later today..this is so disappointing.. I'm almost tempted to stick with B&M locations from now on.. :(

If I recall correctly, there are two releases correct? One narrated by David Attenborough and one with Sigourney Weaver..maybe one the with Sigourney Weaver works?

I'm willing to bet that the "Spring Update" will correct this issue, but ...

Of course my order hasn't shipped yet (from 3/31) Maybe that's a good thing. Saving me greater aggravation.

Have you gone on-line to check for updates. A similar issue was encountered over in the UK and an X-box update fixed it.

You don't want to start mass hysteria before people get their disks :)

We have two of the X-Box 360 HD-DVD players in the house and the discs would not play on either one of them. Probably going to have to send it back, if someone does not know a solution to this problem. Gave it a 1 star because it would not work. The actual series is amazing and a real eye opener to the world around us.

This is a great series, but be aware, this does not work on xbox 360 hd dvd drive. It would be nice if there was a warning about this listed somewhere on the site. It will only work on a standard hd dvd player. Nice, now I have to return this for the standard dvd version. What a shame, i really wanted to see it in high def.

A note of warning - even if you have an HD-TV, you'll need a special HD-DVD player to play this disc. If you have a normal DVD player it will not work.

If you have a Playstation 3, you want to buy the Blu-Ray version of this disc, as the PS3 does not play HD-DVD discs, only DVD's and Blu-Ray discs. Blu-Ray discs hold the same HD video that the HD-DVD version has.

The first couple of episodes on The Discovery Channel look wonderful. Is this the same series? Discovery is narrated by Sigourney Weaver and this BBC series seems to be narrated by David Attenborough. I don't really care who's talking, but I'm would like to make sure the footage is the same before I purchase this.

connect the net then log in to xbox live. then insert the movie disc, then it should ask for update.

I got an update when I tried Children of Men yesterday and it helped fix the problems I was having with that HD DVD also. Good to see they are working on this.

I'm currently on Disc 2 and I haven't experienced any problems...

Wow, all 4 discs work in mine flawlessly.I've also been hooked up to XBL quite a few times while using the HD DVD, but never been prompted for an update other than the ones that have been officially announced.

Yes, Richard Attenborough narrates the DVD's as I believe he did the original BBC airing of the series. I prefer his narration. The picture quality is simply stunning.

Agree about the picture quality, but it is Richards brother David Attenborough who does the narration on Planet Earth and most Natural History docs here in the UK. Richard is better known for his acting, John Hammond, Jurassic Park, Kris Kringle, Miracle on 34th Street, or Director on Gandhi, Cry Freedom etc;

I can read all other disks with no problems, except disk 1. The error message i get is "Cannot Read Disk." Has anyone had similar problems... what do you recommend i do ? Should i return for an exchange ?

No problems with my brother's 360 HD DVD.

im wondering if the 360 add on's are partially crapping out. Two of my friends were having issues playing back recent titles, mainly combo's. They have both returned their drives and now have no problems. They never had issues with regular DVD's.

I have had my add on since the day it came out, and have had no problems...so far (knock on wood).

I've only played part of the first disc, but it works fine for me.

Does anyone know why the sound always seems muted when playing through the 360 add on? I always have to turn my receive volume way up when listening to HD DVDs as opposed to their DVD counterparts.

This is a known issue and will be fixed with the update that is comming soon...

Return it looks like you got a bad disc, BUT the most effective way would probably be to contact Warner since its just one disc.

Using PDVD ULTRA/AnyDVD I can play these discs with no problems on all my HTPCs direct from the addon. I also ripped them to HDD and play them from a media server.
