Hi,

Where do you buy / research new HD / BD Titles?

I am thinking about running some ads for my BD / HD titles.

I am curious as to what websites, magazines, and other media you use to research or purchase new HD / BD releases.

For example, do you visit any of the following websites or use any of the following media:

* Amazon

* DVD Talk

* Deep Discount DVD

* Engadget.com

* Blu-ray.com

* AVSFORUMcom

* Widescreen Review

* Perfect Vision

* Sound & Vision

* Home Theater Magazine

Also, what are the determining factors that might sway you when it comes to making a purchasing decision. Would any of these features be a factor?

* 96/24 Soundtrack

* DTS-HD MA

* Ture PCM Stereo Mix verses a Fold Down / Down Mix - (for Music Titles)

* Video Encode Rates of 24 Mbps VBR / 30mbps Peak

* Java Menus on BD

* Bonus Features or Content

As of now, I have a bit more interest in promoting BD as the sales are 1/3 of what HD-DVD titles are. Any specific comments from BD buyers would be appreciated.

Well as far as research I'd say here primarily. Magizines are always a few months behind but I do read home theater magazine.

As far as buying I'd say Best Buy, amazon.com and for imports xploitedcinema I've ordered 7 from them..

Buy factors.
Dolby true HD
Price
Reviews of movie

But at the moment I'm HDDVD but plan on getting blu-ray at some point as well..

For information I use mainly

* Amazon

* AVSFORUMcom

When I could chose between either Blu-Ray or HD DVD than I took into consideration:

* 96/24 Soundtrack

* DTS-HD MA

* Ture PCM Stereo Mix verses a Fold Down / Down Mix - (for Music Titles)

Richard,

I use too many sites for software information: avsforum, highdefdigest, hometheaterforum, dvdtalk... and amazon, dvdempire (back cover scans rock!), dvdpacific...

WRT content, one minor note, but important for many overseas enthusiasts:

Please include English/French/Spanish subtitles (for any title with dialog/narration).

Richard,

There are about 20 different sites that I use to read about the latest and greatest for both formats. Many of them have been mentioned by others so I won't repeat them again. In terms of features, the more the better. Lossless sountracks, special features, etc.

Hi Rich - are you saying that your HD DVD sales have been 3 times the BD version? That's quite surprising...

Secondly - from your post it would seem that you will be mounting an ad campaign to try to show how the BD and HD version of your discs vary based on Lossless Audio, higher Mpeg rates, Interactivity, etc? So it would seem that you intend to promote the BD version as superior?

Third - is this new ad campaign being funded by any entity(ies) associated with this format war?

I usually buy from Amazon or Best Buy.

where I buy: locally (not on-line), small local store, Future shop for most but have bought from others

research: AVS, a title that is highly regarded on PQ/AQ /something new (curiosity factor)

what I buy: what I feel like when I am at the store, sometimes it is a movie I want, other times it is a movie that I heard some interesting things about it here, other times it is just that something looks interesting about it while at the store.
