View Full Version : Samsung UP5000 - Guess the features and price
Would love to test the buzz in this new topic by posting a poll.
Let's take our guesses as to what the Samsung will provide in features and price.
Some of this is made easier by the fact that it will have to support a LOT of things anyway, due to the HD DVD minimum specs.
Take your guesses above! It's multiple choice!
samiam95124 04-25-07, 03:23 PM A few you forgot:
[] Will have built in UWB wireless HDMI.
[] Will be able to forceably convert a HD-DVD disc to BR and vice-versa.
[] Will be able to automatically understand and convert spoken languages to
any other.
[] Will be able to tell what disc you want to play and when, before you do.
[] Will sense of smell and taste transmitters built in.
[] Will be able to contact extraterrestrials.
You mean DTS MA and not DTS-HD. The press release indicates that it will support and decode ALL audio formats, hopefully with analog outs and under $800.00.

If that's the case.... put one in my cart.

Correct - I meant DTS HD in the broadest sense, including Master Audio lossless.
[] Will Have ILink
[] Will offer DVD-A Support
[] Will Offer SACD Support
[] Will have 7.1 analog outs
MichaelHDDVD 04-25-07, 06:43 PM It will definetly have HDMI 1.3, it is quickly going to become the standard, see the PS3, XA2, and since this player will definetly be above the $600 mark it will most definetly have HDMI 1.3
Customgamer1 04-25-07, 07:04 PM Well I voted for it to be under $800 and if it's over well they just priced them self out of the market to a point where I think it would be pointless even to make at this time?
We don't need more high priced players we need cheaper ones! $800+ is just not going to cut it anymore.
If the price is low enough I may be tempted to upgrade and fall into the bad blu-ray trap but at least I like Samsung and it's not a SONY!!! I hope I don't buy it lol but if I find a price I can't pass up it will be hard for me not to buy it!
Will have HDMI 1.3
Will have Ethernet and USB ports
Will have full support of HDi and BD-Video 1.1
Will have BD-Live 2.0 support also!
Will sell for less than $800
Will make *current* Single Format players from BD side pointless+
+: besides they priced as a pathetic ripoff scheme. they will be pointless or rather discontinued completely anyway when BD Live v2.0 kicks in full effect...

I don't care if it does every single one of those things and sells for $99. If it doesn't have 1080p24 output and a blender attachment, it's dead to me.

I'm shocked I forgot the bender attachment! Deep (and somewhat
used and sticky) apologies!
[] Will have 7.1 analog outs
Second the need for 7.1 Analog outs -- that would make upgrading my Receiver unnecessary for a while.

After a few reviews of this player I could put my XA2 and BD 10 into retirement. I don't know if the XA2 is firmware upgradeable to decode DTS MA, and I know my Panny will never be able to do it.
Not only will it come with HDMI v1.3, but also include ethernet, decode all audio formats (but with the new Onkyo coming is a few weeks, it might not matter), and fully support HDi and BD-J, making most BD players pointless.
Samsung has a chance to really dominate this market. If they can release 2 versions 1 stripped down the other high end and have prices at $599 or $699 and $799 or $899 respectively I will get one.
