I am on the fence about whether to rent or buy this title. From the previews it looked pretty stupid to me but it seems alot of people liked it. I don't mind blind buying but I am leaning toward a rent on this one.

I'd like some input on this one as well.... the storyline sounds like something that might interest me... but there have been plenty of bad films with good plot ideas.

That is correct. The movie is just OK - even if the subject matter interests you, it's hard to imagine anyone genuinely LOVING this movie - but it is very well done with strong performances, and the second half in particular is very effective and harrowing. Definitely worth a rental at least.

I was largely disappointed by this one. I watched the true-story on E or Lifetime (one of the storytelling networks) and the story was pretty involving ... so I got excited to see the movie.

I know that i am going to buy this!! Umm i don't know what some of these people are talking about i thought this movie was pretty good. And JT was amazing i might add but i don't know if you would want to buy, i guess if you read something good by a credible source or its packed with a ton of features id say just rent but really look into it.

i actually thought the movie was pretty damn good, alot better than i expected for sure. not sure if i will buy the hd dvd, it probably depends on the technical reviews. if its a combo, ill most likely skip it all together tho

Who cares if it is bad or good. Let's see how it sounds with the Dolby True HD track. Not all the HD DVD studios are making it a standard to have the DTHD track on each of there HD movies and it is disappointing. Can't wait for the Matrix trilogy with all three in DTHD, oh yeah!!!

I am SOOOO glad I just rented this and did not buy it. My initial impressions from watching the previews were 100% dead on. It was exactly the movie I thought it would be and nothing more. It would have instantly gone up on ebay or for trade like Babel did.

I would have probably taken a chance and blind bought this if it wasn't a (more expensive) combo.

For anyone who is interested, there is a movie out entitled "The Chumscrubber" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0406650/) that has a very similar plotline (almost seems to be based on this same true story) but is much better IMHO. Plus it was first to market.

I'm not buying anymore combo discs from Universal until they get their software functioning correctly or Toshiba does a firmware update addressing these combo movies. They just lost money off of me and many other people that read these forums and see that these combo discs have major issues. I really wanted to see Alpha Dog, but I'll wait until it's cleared up. Universal already is analyzing 4 of my combo discs as it is. Don't want to have to mail out another one. This will give me a chance to catch up on the blu-ray side of my collection.

OK.... I rented it from Netflix first. the movie wasn't bad starting off, but it seemed to drag on with the same theme and never really seemed to go anywhere. I also had a few glitches with this disc. Maybe because it was a Netflix HD-DVD, I'm not sure. This is the first film I have played since updating to FW2.2. I didn't have any problems with COM, Smokin Aces, or Hollywoodland with 2.1.

Incorrect. It seems to be title/player specific. "All" is obviously an exaggeration.

WirelessGuru, mine played though fine on my XA1 fw2.2. I got my disc from netflix as well.

stevesns69 I have had pretty good luck with the Universal combos. CoM played through on 2.0. Smokin Aces on 2.1 was fine too.

Or were you commenting on the film?The methods used in creating HDDVD combo discs are used to manufacture many DVD based products with no problems.
