View Full Version : Who besides me no longer shops at BestBuy?

Because of BestBuys high HD DVD title prices and the fact they never seem to have the new titles in stock I have gave up on them and just don't bother shopping there for anything. Of all Places to shop I now go to CircuitCity where a year ago I would not have been seen near one. :)

Around June/July I'm looking to buy the new Toshiba 57 inch 1080p LCD or perhaps the new 57 inch LG LCD but hey it ain't going to be from BestBuy (they should change their name to WorstBuy imo).

If you know what you want, and Best Buy has the best deal, what's the issue?

I don't shop their often. Unless they have a outstanding sale. Which is not often. I'm going where the savings are. As far as HD-DVD's go. I got 1 disc from them, which was on sale for 19.99. Riddick! Last year, I think.

I don't shop there anymore. I tried to price match Planet Earth today and they wouldn't, lol. Not the first time this has happened. I'm not shopping there anymore unless they have a "Buy 2 save $10/Buy 3 save $20" deal like they did two months ago, and even then it is still slighly more expensive than Amazon.

I cannot stand Best Buy. I buy everything from Amazon now. 10% off HD discs and Amazon Prime can't be beat.

For HD-DVDs? Hell no, unless I have Reward Zone Certificates, all of my HD purchases go to Amazon, the 10% off is lovely. Hopefully by the time the 10% runs out prices for HD-DVDs come down a little.

Only once at Best Buy.. and it was Casino Royale(BR), because everywhere else was sold out. Never any HD-DVD's though.

I've only bought 2 HD movies online... and the rest from Fry's. Fry's has great prices... so I've been showing my support by buying in store.

I got CR(BD) at BB for $21 with tax, plus the little aston (valued a $10).

BB rocks if you have a fry's near by, so you can price match during promos.

I used to buy a lot of stuff at BB. I was there every Tuesday picking up discs and other things. Since I very rarely buy regular DVD's any more, and their Hd DVD's are so expensive and hard to find, I rarely shop there anymore. So not only are they losing DVD sales, they are also losing out on all the other stuff I would buy, like games, CD's, cables and more expensive items.

I used to be a huge customer - not just DVDs and other media, but computers, games, software, printers, ink - you name it. I was a regular.

Then, last fall, they were paid by Sony to push BD and put HD DVD in the background. Since then, I have done most shopping elsewhere. I have bought a 46" LCD flat panel from Ultimate Electronics, wall mount on eBay, PC from Dell, Xbox 360, Nintento Wii both from Target. Most of my HD DVDs from Amazon. I have used a couple of coupons at BB, but my spend rate there has dropped more than 95% from before.

I have even made my first purchases at Curcuit City since ther Divx fiasco in 1996. :) I have a long memory.

I don't buy from there.
The only reason I ever buy a Hd disc from them is if they f up the price and mark things at the wrong price. like when I got charlie and the chocolate factory for $9.99 on HD-DVD.

The last time I went into Best Buy it was for Vonage and that was about 2 years ago. For HD DVDs I normally go to Fry’s for almost everything. Most of my HD DVD purchases are impulse buys. I had to buy a new 3.6V battery and DVD/CD-R for my G4 so my son and I ran to Fry’s yesterday. He has been looking for a copy of “The Thing” so we went over to the HD DVD section and although they didn’t have what he wanted I did end up grabbing COM. I sometimes pickup something from Wal-Mart or Target, but those are primarily catalog titles.

I have a Fry’s (3 blocks from the house, you gotta love that), a Super Wal-Mart and a Super Target between me and the nearest Best Buy. Since all of those stores also have better prices on HD DVDs there is little reason for me to drive further to shop at Best Buy.

I only buy software online anyway, unless if I know they carry what I wan't and I can't wait.

I'm in full agreement!! In fact, I sent a letter to Circuit City and told them that I would never spend another dime in their stores. This, despite the fact that -until their reprehensible act of canning their most senior employees- I typically made about 90% of my new DVD and CD purchases at Circuit City. I've spent thou$ands there in the last several years.

Not anymore! I will spend my money elsewhere, even if the item costs a buck or two more. Circuit City is morally bankrupt and I look forward to the financial side following suit.

They are way to expensive on HD movies. I only shop there when there is a special deal. They were at one time the best place to get DVDs, but with the new technology they seem to want to charge the most compared to everyone else. They seem to have changed too much over the years because I remember going in on Tuesdays and they knew me by name and walked me right up to the new releases for the week. Made me feel like Norm walking into Cheers, if anyone remembers that show. Now they don't seem to care at all and I haven't gotten anything for a long time from using their rewards card. I never get the coupons throught the mail anymore.

I'm a little confused actually. Back when the Xbox 360 was released, I was under the understanding that Best Buy was partially owned by Microsoft who backs HD-DVD.

Looking at this weeks ad from Best Buy... every display shamelessly advertises that "Night at the Museum" is on Blu-Ray disc.
While the Circuit City ad.... who just recently started selling Toshiba is advertising an HD package with the A20 and Toshiba displays?

As for experience, Best Buy sold me a Clothes Dryer that was all dented up and blamed me for it when I called to let them know. And a Best Buy salesman told me I absolutely needed HDMI for my 26" bedroom CRT television. Needless to say, I don't patronize their stores any longer. Between Vanns and Value Electronics, i think I have found a couple great online stores with much better customer service.

It does make sense tho..... BB is Blue, and CC is Red. :)

I used to spend $150 to $200 a month on movies at best buy, hd dvd movies, used to go there every tuesday back in summer of last year. Stopped shopping there since December, when every tuesday their westwood store would show movies unavailable, then they never have movies in strock ever. Or there site shows have them in stock only to check and find after driving there they are out of stock. No one ever seems to care, manager always says with smile oh we are out of stock, dummy why don't you order more copies next week, same ol sob stories. Blue shirts are hopeless, they aand their computers, after spending 20 minutes to tell you out of stock.

i am a rewards member, i will never ever shop there ever again for movies. I go to Laser Blaser, they have every movie in stock on release date always, have the best selection.

Don't shop at Worst buy, they are hopeless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to sho at Best Buy 100% of the time. Now, its Circuit City all the time. They, by the way, had a tyv commercial about their new tv/HD DVD package. First commercial I think I've ever seen for a HiDef player. Kewl news for HD DVD.

Best Buy in Canada..... just like Best Buy in the states... TERRIBLE. I mean... they don't heave nearly the selection of Amazon.com (of course), they rarely know what they are talking about (this TV switched from 1080i and 720p so you can pick which you want when watching different programs.. yeah.. right, or hey the old.. this hmdi cable is better than this one because it uses gold connectors and it costs 160 dollars.. yeah.. right), anyway... a few of those things combined and I rarely go there anymore. I go to video game stores (like EB Games) for my PS3 stuff and I buy all my HD DVD/Blu-ray discs off Amazon.com

I got my XA2 player in a specialty surround sound/av shop in the city here... Best Buy didn't even have any HD DVD players at the time and the guy tried to tell me that I could use the 360 add on with the PS3...... I didn't even bother to correct him. Geesh.

Pertaining to HD-DVD's, almost never shop at BB. Their prices are so high, even a GC or 12% off isn't enough to match amazon.com's price.

My local BB has price matched Target (i.e., Amazon prices) on numerous occasions and permitted me to apply RZ certificates to the discounted total. Under this scenario, I'll continue to shop there.

Also, the free HD promo discs are a plus...NIN on BD, South Park on HD-DVD and the new Spiderman 3 Preview BD out now, or coming this Sunday.

Yep, I don't buy sd-dvd's, and I haven't bought anything from bestbuy in about a year. Their prices suck (except when they screwed up and used my 10% off coupon on my TV and saved me over $400), their staff are idiots, their customer service sucks, the stores are way too crowded, I could go on and on. It's amazon for me. I'd much rather wait a couple days than have to drive to bestbuy and deal with that crap, and then overpay for my movie. The only thing I would buy from there is something I want to have the ability to return, and then only if I can't find it at target.

Some of you pointed out why you won't shop at Circuit City now. Welcome to the club. I permanently fired them ten years ago, when they blatantly lied to customers about DVD and Divx. Circuit City managers were (and I suppose still are) evil. I have steered many people away from that company, and will continue to do so.

I got my 1080p HDTV at Best Buy last November, and recently just bought the new Canon HV20 1080i Hi-def camcorder from there. Both were good deals.

However, I haven't bought any HD DVDs from them because the prices for them are too high.

I won't rule out Best Buy for other things just because they overcharge for HD media.

It's not just Best Buy, I rarely buy HD DVDs at ANY B&M store. Between the Warner sale and being in on the Amazon 10% thing until December, there is no reason to pay 5-10 dollars more.

I stopped buying from BB a while back due to the horrific cust service and floated prices...CC has a decent CS and better overall quality/prices IMO...now this BB bias against HD DVD when it should have been an even ground presented by a retailer that would let the consumer be the one making the choice instead of forcing one format down our spines...that's even a bigger turn off from a manipulative BB...CC has my vote!

Best Buy is not really strong on any HD titles. I've gone looking for both HD DVD and BLU RAY titles on the street date, and have left empty handed many times. They are not really a good deal anyway. I think they are pretty steep on thier prices for everything and are really not the BEST BUY.

I still go there on tuesdays to see if something new and not likely to come to HD anytime soon has come out. Masters of Horror for example and the WB superhero animated seasons which are over now.

I still buy my major appliances there, waiting for sale prices. Then I try to use the reward zone certificates on HD DVDs, but the pickings are slim. I've got a $20 certificate that I haven't used the last two times in the store, just nothing I wanted to buy. I used to buy everything there, now I hardly ever go there anymore.

Why would someone want to pay higher prices (compared to what you can get online), pay taxes, deal with snobby/uninformed (most of the time) salespeople, while listening to all that noise/ruckus going on in the store?

I go there once in a while just to have a look around, and I always leave disappointed...

A long time ago (8-10 years) Best Buy was pretty good. They had great prices on DVDs and games, etc. Recently, the prices on any DVDs are just way too high and high def dics are unbearable. I used Reward Zone coupons the first few times I purchased HD discs there and the prices were in line when including shipping compared to Amazon (around $20). Went in this week with a 10% coupon and not a single disc was less than $24.99.

If I didn't have the coupon, I never would have bought The Thing. Filled out the survey that comes with the reciept and in the comments box left a note stating about their prices and how they (poorly) compare.

Reward Zone started off as a good deal with $5 coupons every $120 spent. Now it's $5 per $250! When you can FREQUENTLY buy a single DVD for $5 cheaper at Wal-Mart, Reward Zone is now a total joke. The only way it would be worth it is if you used it inconjunction with a price match on a big ticket item. Otherwise it's pretty pointless.

I used to spend around $200.00 a month at Best Buy but stopped last October. I got tired of going down to the nearest store on my lunch break on Tuesdays to pick up the advertised CDs or DVDs to only be told that they are still in the back in the large boxes they get every week and that could I come back the next day. Then if I buy something else, they add insult to injury at the checkout stand "Did I find everything I wanted". I'd say "No" and get a canned response "You can probably get it from our on-line store" I used to tell them "If I want to get it from an on-line store, I'll get it from Amazon.com" This is when I usually get a blank stare. I just got sooooo tired of being told to come back later when they have the shippment out on the floor. Shouldn't they be breaking out the new stuff the night before? At least break out the advertised stuff. This was at the Moreno Valley store in California. But I've had the same problems at other Best Buys in my area. Mighty Lame and annoying.

I've stopped buying HD DVDs from virtually every place but Frys Electronics. This is how it comes out:

Rapists like Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, Blockbuster and even Wal-Mart charge $5 more than Frys on everything and then go for the gold with $37 combo discs. The minimum price for any given HD DVD at these retail establishments is $24.99. Best Buy and Circuit city have the largest selection, but at those prices, who cares? Blockbuster and Wal-Mart only have around 15 titles, but they do manage to get new titles in(but again, at those prices, who cares). CompUSA is the worst. Crap selection, unbelievably high pricing.

Target has most titles for only $20, but they rarely get anything new and some older titles(like King Kong) are a whopping $30. They have a poor selection of maybe 12 titles(same with Blu-Ray, but at least Blu-Ray gets new titles in).

At Frys almost everything is $20 with new releases also coming in at $20(unless it's the idiotic combo discs). Some stuff, like the Discovery Atlas series is only $17.99. Their selection is huge and every bit as large as their Blu-Ray selection. The absolute best place to buy from(assuming you can go into the store, with shipping it's not worth it).

If you don't value your, I assume, hard-earned money, then shop at Best Buy. Years ago it somewhat lived up to its name. These days, however they offer a watered-down selection of over-priced merchandise peddled by a legion of half-wits. Sorry if you work there but that has been my personal experience.
