I have recorded TV shows in Vista Media Center. All default codecs. They look and sound great in playback on the PC through Vista MC. If I play them back in any other MC app I get no sound.

Lastnight I installed a D-Link DSM 510 and got great video streams...but no sound. I ran a video that I captured on my Treo 700P and it had great video and great sound.

510 is connected to the PC-Media Server wirelessly and to the TV by HDMI. No stuttering even on HD recordings. Just wish it had audio.

I found no help in the user manual. What am I missing?

Not sure if I'm on the wrong track...but I gotta try something. My bride is gettin g very upset about the amopunt of money I am spending and not accomplishing anything. LOL

OK...So I noticed Vista MC is recording the high def shows in the MS Copy Protected format...DVR-MS? Which means it can only be played back on the device that recorded it.

So now I nedd to determine...can these files be converted or is there a way to tell Media Center to quit recording in this format? I suppose I could use Aver Media Center to record the shows...but what would be the point of that?

Any help?

Would running TVersity as a server instead of VMC make the media player (dsm510) think it is playing from the same device that recorded the show?

The only way I know of playing DRM content is using the DRM manufacturer's software. If it's with MS, use Windows Media Connect (with UPnP). If it's Apple, use iTunes DAAP feature if your player can connect to a DAAP server.
I have heard that some server support DRM (mostly MS), but you need to run it on the PC and the success rate seems rate lame with all the crap that it implies.
It looks more like a player codec support issue than anything else.
TVersity will transcode from one format to another, but I doubt it will work with DRM stuff.
You should record to a more standard format than the Vista default which is for sure going to try to put all the possible barriers to try to prevent you from listening to the stuff on something else than the box who recorded ...

Well...that's not what I wanted to hear.

Is there a way to change Vista Media Center to record to a different format? I can't find it if there is. Otherwise I'll have to use a different PVR app.
