I have a Home Theater Master MX-700 that I would love to be able to use for a couple of simple functions.

I mostly want it for my wife's use.
She has trouble with the Tivo peanut.

I have the current software, but am struggling mightily programming it.

If anyone is interested in helping, please PM me and see if we can work something out.

My equipment:

Sony KDF-E42A10 HDTV
Pioneer Elite VSX-82TSX Receiver
Oppo DV970HD DVD
Tivo Series 3

Honestly-I am having trouble getting past the "test" part on the MX-Editor.

Several Years ago, I sort of had it working with my older equipment, but macros and punch throughs never seemed to work just right. :o

I suppose if I really studied it I could probably figure it out, but I would most likely not set it up with the best WAF configuration.

by test, do you mean having the computer send marcos/learned codes/etc to your equipment when connected to the remote? I've had limited success with this too. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I always get confused by the punch through too. I always seem to get it backwards, so I don't use them anymore. I teach all of my remotes to devices on page 2 and then map them to the buttons we use in normal use to devices on page 1. No punch through needed - just map the button to correct device's button on page 2.

By teaching do you mean literally lining up the remotes and teaching one command at a time?

yep. after a few buttons, it goes very quickly. it shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes to learn a remote.

Thanks for helping Derek

so really all I need to do is line up the remotes and press one hard button at a time until all the buttons/transport keys have been pressed, and after each button press, the functions of that button are now on the MX-Editor, page 2 of the device in your case?

If that is correct, I will ask how you do your mapping next :o

If I remember correctly, you will need to create a device on page 2, for example tv. next, you should assign the pre-programmed device aux 155 which is basically blank slate. Then, you select a button to learn in the mx-editor, (say #1), press the learn icon, and press #1 on your tv's remote. There is a batch learning mode you can also use.

for any strange keys on the tv's remote that doesn't have a matching button on the 700 (i.e. an aspect ratio button) create a label for the lcd buttons and learn it to that button.

as far a mapping is concerned, select the device and button on page 1 that you want to use select the device and button from the pull downs in the upper right window of the editor.

That's only for the MX-500 or 600. It's not necessary with the PC-programmable remotes.

Then, you select a button to learn in the mx-editor, (say #1), press the learn icon, and press #1 on your tv's remote. There is a batch learning mode you can also use.

By hitting the "Learn" and "Continue to next button" icons, you can start at the top left LCD button, then automatically go through all the LCD buttons from there.

for any strange keys on the tv's remote that doesn't have a matching button on the 700 (i.e. an aspect ratio button) create a label for the lcd buttons and learn it to that button.

Also, you can always drag-and-drop commands around on the LCD button editor, so it's not crucial to decide where you want them up front.

A few other tips:

Don't bother with the "Test" feature. Just download a few possible database codes to the remote and try them.

Punchthrough is FROM a device TO another. So, if you want your receiver's volume controls on the TV device you must punch FROM the receiver TO the TV.

Get all of your original remote's commands on the MX-700 and working, then decide which ones you want on the first page of each device based on how often you use them.

If you haven't already done so, download the programming manual from the "Files" section of remotecentral.com.

Ahhh. Good to know that this isn't necessary with the 700, but it does appear to work with the 700.
