I was in my neighborhood Hollywood Video last night and asked my weekly question of "When will you start to carry HD-DVDs and BluRay Discs?"

The shift manager stated that he'd been ordered by management to clear out all remaining VHS tapes to make room for the HD discs. He also let it slip (who knows if it's true or not) that they are preparing to go online soon to try to and compete with BB online and Netflix. He went on to say how poorly BB online has been performing.

Not sure if this is more than rumor, but thought I'd share it.

The Hollywood in my area has been carrying HD discs for some time now. However, they're like 4.99 to rent for 5 days.

I think its a YMMV case right now.. but this rumor might make it a typical thing shortly? Which would be nice :)

I've been thinking about signing up for BB online, after reading a few reviews about their service. From what I read BB online was pretty decent, hope not to have any unpleasant surprises.

It's been decent for me, but I'm on their 2nd to lowest plan.

1 at a time, 3 a month max.

But I pay 7.99 a month, I get 3 blu-ray rentals, 3 instore free rentals with the envelopes, and a game rental... and I normally get the blu-rays next day delivery, and all look brand new, untouched. Been doing it for a while now. Totally worth it.

Just found out that the Hollywood Video in Cedar Park, TX is now renting HD-DVD's!

A friend of mine works at Hollywood and told me that (god I hate posts like these)... corporate had them clear space for HDM and sent them signs to advertise.... Shortly after, before they even put the signs up, corporate told them to take all reference to HDM down.

So who knows what's going on. Not trying to discount the OP. It could just be a regional thing.

My local Hollywood cleared out the VHS tapes a couple of weeks ago. When I asked if it was to make room for HDM all I got was a "maybe."

I like the total access thing with swapping discs in store. But honestly, their availability online for HD titles is lacking. It seems like they get their HD movies weeks after release, and everything has a short to long wait.

Our HV has a pretty equal selection of both Bd and hddvd. I'd go there if I could get a player.

Not to rain on anyones parade (oh what the heck) - but this company is in SERIOUS financial trouble.

Just do a search for Movie Gallery - the parent of HV. Awful lot of talk about a banko on this one. Video Business is a good place to search.

I really like Hollywood myself. They used to have very good prices on previewed dvd and still have lifetime warranty, but it seems it's up to stores what price section they place titles in, because some stores have good titles for 5, others charge 7-8 for the same title, so I started buying dvds from Blockbuster.

Regarding HDM, none of the Blockbusters/Hollywoods I go to have started stocking them unfortunately. (and I live in a area where people have pretty good income on average)
