Hey, is this really coming out? I saw this on Discovery HD and it was really good.

Or am I thinking of something else?

Hmmmm, so is this going to be in 3D, as in you'll be needing glasses and all? I've always thought 3D would come off better in HD just due to the colors being so much more vibrant. Might be interesting.

Hey, now that's an idea! Looks like it has both the regular and 3D version on the same disc. Companies should do this more often.

The smallprint on the cover points out that glasses are included.

I hope it's the polarized version, which is what played in IMAX. That was incredible. Not a bad little doc either.

It's only about 45 minutes, like all IMAX documentaries.

actually the smallprint says that there are 2 pair of glasses included; "inklusive zwei 3D Brillen" <- smallprint in German

here is some information on the German release (in English)

I hope it's the polarized version, which is what played in IMAX. That would require something driving the glasses and a special display (like a special screen with a special projector). So, I don't think it is that.

Cool! And it's coming out in a few weeks too. Sounds like it's well worth a curiosity buy.

When I saw Metalstorm in theaters the 3D was polarized and those were just paper glasses.

The glasses they have at IMAX now are normal sunglass sized so I don't think there's anything special in them.

It'll probably be anaglyph, I'm just hoping it's not.

Yes, but the output from the IMAX projector(s) is polarised depending on the frame - something you're telly isn't going to be able to do.

There are multiple ways to do it, but with just the polarized paper glasses or sunglass style the screen needs to be special to retain the polarization and the projector needs to have some special stuff (at least in the ones I know about). The Digital Cinema DLPs can do 3D, but the theaters need a special screen and those DLPs are very fast and designed to be able to put up the 2 images with different polarizations (I'm sure with some modification). It would be nice to be able to do something of this quality in 3D at home, but I don't think there is anything right now and I'm not sure if Sensio has a home 3D system for HD. I had their home SD system with 3D, but there were some issues and I think HD beats it anyway.

As a 3D sidenote, looks like more commercial theaters should add 3D capability. There are 2 films competing for the Memorial Day slot in 2009. One is a 3D movie from James Cameron. Since there are only going to be so many 3D capable theaters, one of those movies will probably have to come out at a different time.
