I've got a first generation Toshiba HD-DVD HD-A1 player. It's got the original firmware. When I tried playing both disk 1 and disk 2 of planet earth it gets stuck displaying some static pictures of several scenes. I've never get to the MENU to play the disk. It's almost as if it's locked up in a loop before the menu displays. Anybody else having issues playing these disks?

You should definitely download the latest 2.2 firmware.

I had the same issue with Planet Earth and my HD-A1 with original firmware. I downloaded and installed firmware version 2.0 and I'm going to give it another try later today.

You may want to install 2.2 as new features have been implemented since 2.0.

Listen to MidnightWatcher and install the 2.2. I have watched all four PE discs on my HD A1 with FW 2.2 and no problems.

Followed suggestions and upgraded firmware to 2.0 for which I already had a firmware update disk from Toshiba. It fixed my problem and now Planet Earth menu comes up. I called Toshiba and they said an update of the firmware to 2.2 just came out today and that I should be receiving a disk in the mail automatically. I'll load this once I get it.

Fired up the HD-A1 (now with firmware version 2.0), loaded Planet Earth and bingo--it now plays without a hitch.

Now that some more of you have it working, what do you think?:)

My copy of Planet Earth came with a little note telling me to be sure and upgrade to the latest firmware for the best possible viewing experience. I had already done that, and I have no problem with this FANTASTIC looking set.

I am having similar issues with my Xbox 360 add-on. The disc is brand new from Netflix, but it freeze in chapter one of episode one. I played episode two with no problem, but loading an episode from the menu takes an extremely long time. It freezes for several minutes.

Mine won't play either. Episode 1 from Netflix. HD-A1 FW 1.3. . I've not had any problems with my player, and I haven't wanted to update FW for fear or introducing them. I guess now I will have to take my chances. I don't have the Toshiba DVD, so I'll have to call and wait for it in the mail.

Planet Earth is playing fine on my A1 with 2.0, so it must be only the earliest versions of firmware that are causing the problems. I haven't upgraded to 2.2 - anything notable or should I just wait?

Btw, the PE set is simply fantastic!

I had the same problem before I upgrade mine to v2.0 with the Toshiba FW v2.0 CD-ROM.
