I have been searching and cant find a thread for the LG SMB-007 player which I have recently purchased. After reading through the BH100 thread It seems these two players are very similar. Are they infact the same player?

Or is the SMB-007 a Canadian verison or updated version of the BH100?

I havent had any problems with the player other then Big Fish (bluray) not working past the title menu (the previews worked). The only other issue is 1080P not working from it, but if it is the same as the BH100 then I would need a 1080P/24 tv (which I dont have ---> i have a samsung 4665F). I am thinking of taking it back since I could get a 1st gen blu-ray and a 1st gen HD for only a little less. But of course Im not quite sure that teh difference would even be worth it since from what Ive read there isnt much of a difference between 1080P and 1080i unless its 1080P/24.

Thanks,
Chris.

Hmph, weird. Why would LG go through all the bother of a different model number for the Canadian version?

IMHO, you would want to return your combo unit for one of two reasons:

1. You want to have iHD and other HD-DVD peculiar features that do not work on the not-quite-compliant LG

2. You want to upgrade one, the other, or both formats over time (BD players after Oct 2007, maybe you get a new TV that supports 24fps so you want an HD DVD player that supports 1080p24, etc), and maybe have separate players for separate TVs.

OTOH, you will have the hassle of two sets of inputs, etc, but having two units.

Also consider that the as-yet-unreleased Samsung dual-format unit may be exactly what you want, and could be cheaper too.

YMMV,

I was thinking they are teh same unit. But the HDMI on the SMB-007 carries audio. I only know cause my tv starts playing the audio as well as my stereo (connected through Coaxial digital input atm). So maybe they are slightly different.

When is the samsung unit supposed to come out? Ill have to dig through some of these huge threads some more i suppose.

The reasons I would consider getting rid of this one are that Ive had it freeze a lot of Big Fish (although I havent tested it on another player), It wont do 1080P to my Samsung 4665F since the player only outputs at 1080P/24 and the TV isnt capable of receiving that signal. But i am probably going to get a 1080P plasma in a year or so.

Im not sure.

bump. want to know so I can know if i can use the bh100 firmware update for 1080p. From the specs it looks to be the exact same player.

I have no further info to help you out, other than to note that the Sammy Dual player is now scheduled for a fall release IIRC (and that may have moved again...).

And all the players will have audio over HDMI, so that is not unique about the SMB-007.

Maybe a quick call to the customer service 1-800 number in your manual?

Sorry I can't be of more help,
