I'm going to try and keep this short. I have a PS3 and it's connected to my Sony KV-30HS420 CRT HDTV. When it's connected through HDMI, 1080i and 720p work great. No problems. If I switch the resolution to 480p, the screen is no longer centered and the color is basically crap. Now, if I switch my PS3 to component, 480p works perfect but 720p and 1080i does not. Again, off-centered and the color is crap. Now, if I go into the service menu under the gategory of 2170P-2, and switch the setting SYNP to 1 instead of 0, the problem goes away until I turn the tv off. When I switch the tv back on, the screen is perfect for about 2 seconds and then the problem comes back. It's as if I had never changed the SYNP setting at all even though it's still set to 1. Now if I switch SYNP to 0 and then back to 1, the problem goes away until I turn the tv off and the whole process repeats itself. Anyone??? I'm literally going insane!!!!

My copy of the HS420 service manual doesn't have an entry for SYMP. Are you sure that is the parameter name that you are adjusting?

I'm sorry. The correct parameter in question is SYNP and not SYMP. It is under category, 2170P-2. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the reply! DirecTV HD is being installed tomorrow and I'm hoping to have my tv ready by then. This problem is driving me crazy. =(
