So, I'm planning on getting the XA2 and whilst I wait for it to arrive, I intend to have:

Superman Returns
Superman
Superman II The Donner Cut
Batman Begins
and
Mission Impossible 3.

Think that's a pretty decent way to kick off my new HD life? I'm not going to buy HD movies just for the sake of owning any movie in HD because it's in HD, I'm just going to get films I TRULY want to see in HD.

The list you've got is a great start! Welcome...you'll love the XA2. What a great player!

I would highly recommend Harry Potter (http://xploitedcinema.com/catalog/harry-potter-goblet-fire-release-p-10796.html) (gotta love no region codes... :) ) and The Bourne Supremacy. Both feature incredible picture and absolutely amazing audio (Harry is TrueHD... ).

Nice list, I own all of them except Superman 1, I don't know if you liked King Kong, the 2005 Peter Jackson version, and you say you don't want to own a film simply because it is in HD. But it is extremely well done.

Oh, I'll DEFINITELY get King Kong, too. I should've put that on the list.

I'll obviously get the 5 free DVDs too.

You're forgetting Serenity. It washes your dishes, cleans your windows, and makes your teeth whiter. :)

Might as well add Hulk to the list of Superhero flicks, it looks the best of all of 'em (and I in my view the worst movie but still!)

King Kong has amazing picture quality. Universal really stepped up to the plate on this release. You will really enjoy the XA2, great player!

Since no one's mentioned any of the older classic releases yet, consider putting The Searchers and Casablanca on your purchase list. Amazing PQ!!!

Other than those there's also Grand Prix, Forbidden Planet, Enter the Dragon, The Sting and Mutiny on the Bounty. These all have very clear and colourful PQ but don't reach the WOW factor of The Searchers or Casablanca.

It started with a few movies for me. Then every week or two, there was just one more movie I had to get. Luckily for me, as my extra cash dwindled, so did the release schedule. Now that it has started up again, I find myself waiting for 5 more movies to come from amazon.com.

Oh and get V for Vendetta, it has an amazing TrueHD track, and don't forget Apollo 13, I loved that movie. Planet Earth is supposed to be fantastic as well, I can't wait 'till Monday when it finally arrives.

I agree. If you like Tim Burton movies or stop motion animation...you'll like this flick. :)

I'll probably rent that. I do love Burton flicks, though. I'll get Charlie and The Chocolate Factory later on down the line.

I forgot about V for Vendetta. I'll definitely get that.

I won't get Planet Earth since I've watched every one that's come out so far on Discovery HD about twice, and I don't forsee myself watching them again any time soon.

As for the Hulk, the screencaps I've seen are INCREDIBLE, but I just can't stand the movie, so that'll probably be a renter, too.

Apollo 13 will be one of the freebies I'm gonna get. Along with Constantine, Sky Captain, The Rundown, and probably We Were Soldiers. I dunno if I should get that, U-571 or the Perfect Storm.

So all the HD DVDs Europe has can be played on the XA2? Sweeeeet!

Can't go along with Superman II "a work in progress"
Superman files up and says "ever hear of freedom of the press" please :-(
it should still be "general care to step outside!" Richard Lester version with Brando added in would be perfect!

Holy crap, that may be my new sig line!!! I waited to buy Serenity on SD, because I knew I'd be getting an HD-DVD player once I had the dough.

To the OP - even if you are not a fan of The Matrix Trilogy, it's still worth every penny to show it off to visitors (granted you have a system adequate)
