Depends on what people order. 5 copies will move a title up thousands if it's at a couple of thousand in the ranks before. 5 copies will not move Planet Earth up even one rank.

If the orders were spread out to 40 copies each of the titles ranked 10-35 for HD you would see an amazing jump. That's not gonna happen though since most orders will be for stuff already in the HD DVD top10.

Moving the graph too much is a double edged sword, since it gives an indication of the size of the pool.

No offense, but showing amazon statistics when most probably didn't order from Amazon is a bit of a stretch.....

I rarely, if ever, buy from amazon and I buy a LOT of movies. I hate waiting for UPS.

Also everytime HD DVD movie sales goes up so does Blu-Ray. I have been wondering if someone will find a waerhouse full of Blu-Ray movies some day. ;)

Same thing happened to the Blu-boys when they had their first buy day. Naturally the sites webmaster was accused of having a pro-HD DVD bias...

However it is probably because the website crashes when there are too many random fluctuations among too many movies.

HD DVD has been closing the gap on Blu Ray....

HD DVD has been making stready ground on Blue Ray in sales...and with the recent Matrix Trilogy release this weekend, it appears to be lapping Blue Ray entirely.

The studios need to take note - HD DVD is the better equipment, the better format, and the preferred media of choice.

The attached 60-day running sales graph from Amazon shows the trend.

Like I need an excuse to buy HD DVD movies! :p

I'm going to wait till DVD Pacific has 300 up for pre-order.. Might be a little more expensive, but I want this disc as soon as possible, and they seemed to ship the Matrix discs before anyone else.. I can't complain, I got my Matrix Ultimate on the Monday, May 21, which wasn't too bad, except I would have loved to have it just a few days earlier so I could have enjoyed it that weekend!

Does preorder actually count as a sale the minute you order something? Cos if not, all those preorders won't affect the HD DVD buy day.

I didn't know this thread was around, but I did magically buy Letters from Iwo Jima at Target yesterday. So I participated!

And on Sunday, I dropped a co-worker the news about the Toshiba Sale, and he picked up an HD-A2! Ya.

Did my part and took the plunge with getting my A2 itself (fantastic unit!), and then also on 5/28 -

Not to throw any rain on the parade and I mean that sincerely, with POTC 1 & 2 coming don't we need a strategy for the near future. They are so made for the PS3 community that they will probably both be huge blu blockbusters. I could care less personally, I won't see 3 because I thought 2 sucked.

I'll join in on the next one. I tried to participate yesterday but not through Amazon. I went to BB while they restocked their shelves, it wasn't near the choices or any movies that I wanted, so I didn't buy.

The Xbox 360 Spring Dashboard Update. It fixed a number of things with the add on. I even saw a post on here discussing it... It was a couple of weeks ago.

It was the 5/17/07 HD-DVD update and not the Spring Dashboard update that fixed a number of things with the add on. The Spring Dashboard update was a different Xbox update that didn't affect the HD-DVD drive. Right link, wrong name for the update ;)
