I will join this one :) Just received today the 1st package of my April 15th orders from Amazon.com. I've pre-ordered everything I want until and including 22nd of May releases so next release date for me to target is 29th of May and making the next bunch of orders on 28th is a reasonable timing.

I'll be ordering some of the 29th of May releases and everything I want from June releases on that day, making a few separate orders. Haven't decided what I'll get yet.

Ok I will join this one since I could not do the last one.

I'm in for some catalog titles I've been meaning to get. I pretty much have all of the new releases on pre-order, just waiting for the release day. I should be getting a bunch of HD DVDs from the 15th today or Monday. It sure seems like a long time, almost a half month to get my order! I did have "Feast" in this order, and I think it was released a few days after the 15th, but that still seems excessive. Oh well, good prices, no taxes, and free shipping.. Can't complain :)

I buy BDs on certain day. But for the past month I think I ordered an HD DVD everyday of the week. And box sets on Sundays. (not really)

But I have been ordering HD almost every otherday march-april. HA HA one of my bank accounts actually went to 0. :)

Its totally worth it though. Only promblem is now I need to get job, but then I won't have time to watch my HD. Oh the horror.

So I proclaim that all should buy at least one HD DVD a week. not on the sabbath though. gots to keep it holly.

Six weeks from April 15th gives a decent amount of time for wallets to catch their breath, there are alot of big releases on the 22nd, and it will give people ample time to order their movie(s) of choice

Doesn't matter, because many people have stuff preordered from 5/22 and beyond already from the 4/15 thing.

Seeing the aftermath of the last buy days, it's very obvious that this has much more to do with making the other guys look bad than it does celebrating anything. Except all the last buy days did was completely destroy the predictive value and credibility of Amazon sales rankings, so it didn't really help or hurt anybody. Further, I don't see how buying a bunch of discs on the same day celebrates anything. Wasn't the pretext of the last one that it was HD DVD's "birthday". What is the reasoning here?

This has nothing to do with format. I tell the Blu-ray guys the same thing when they pull this. But I just can't see the logical point of any of this. The only way it makes any sense is if somebody were to just admit "yes, the point is to manipulate numbers and yes I still think that people take those manipulated numbers seriously." Otherwise, it all just smacks of futile immaturity.

Does anybody have some reasoning as I'm genuinely curios as to the thinking here? I suppose you could say there is some fun in being part of a "group", but can any of you honestly say you won't be monitoring Amazon like crazy on May 28?

It isn't really one month, it is 1 and 1/2 months. I know that isn't that much extra. But there are many people who didn't participate in the 4/15 one, and many people like myself only ordered a few movies. It probably won't be 300+ people, but we well definetly have at least 150.

It would be way better if you guys would just buy discs when they come out or as you want them. There is no reason for these "buy days" on either side.

I agree. If anything, this is only going to hurt the sales numbers for HD DVD. Before, people were purchasing HD DVD's regularly (when they wanted to). Now, everyone is saving up and waiting to buy on one day. HD DVD's sales are going to look horrible. It's going to show one large spike over a 24 hour period every month, while the rest of the time the sales will be well below what they have been before this "buy on guacamole day!" started.

The 22nd imo is still a little too close to the last buy day on the 15th of April, and ordering on the 28th allows people to select one day shipping if they wish so they can get the may 29th releases on release day. Although I do see your point. The April 15th HD DVD buy day was two days before the April 17th releases and that worked out pretty well.

Nice balanced list. The moment Blu-ray has a library of titles this balanced between blockbusters, action, drama, comedy, horror and/or a mix of all of these I might consider going there. Until then your list is an argument for sustained support for HD-DVD. :)

Honestly, I was a Blu Ray fanboy pre-launch. I even pre-ordered Chronos on BD back in March 2006 (of course, it was delayed, but still). But since launch, I had a major change of heart, and it's mainly because HD DVD had/has a better catalog that's CURRENTLY available ("potential" titles mean nothing to me).

It's good to see so many people interested in such a wide variety of titles.

Not sure what you are really saying here. Agreed. Juvenile thinking is partly responsible for creating a format war but the format war makes this a competition. According to your logic the competition is responsible for bringing the price down - ergo Juvenile = cheaper products! So surely being Juvenile is a good thing!! ...but I have mixed feelings about these HD DVD buy days. Why? Because they introduce some noise in the sales performance of your beloved HD DVD format (just so you know that I support HD DVD exclusively).

I think the steady growth of HD DVD software (that in my view will catch and surpass Blu-ray in a matter of time - as long as we keep selling stand alone players) is a great thing. And (I may be wrong) the result of these buying days is that in the subsequent days, HD DVD sales end up falling drastically.

The last buying day was reported as "a group of supporters joining forces to manipulate the sales number". I don't think this is good PR.

But that's me.
You guys have fun at the 28th. I'll do my HD DVD shopping on the 30th, 1st and 3rd to try to keep the numbers up.

Maybe we'll get Disney's attention.

Just finished watching The Matrix Trilogy on my new HDA20 1080p HD DVD Player and it's outstanding!! Really enjoyed the good clean transfer to HD DVD, from the original movie. I have found (as most of you) the image on most of the HD DVD's just look better, period. So much was made of the Blu-Ray camp having more space on the disc and yadda, yadda. I see no reason to wait for Blu-Ray to come down, just get an HD DVD Player NOW !!!!!

Its just a day where a bunch of HD DVD owners buy HD DVDs on the same day just because. People get to feel happy because they see their format get a bump on Amazon. There is no real point to it, personally I view it as a way to kill time on the forum

Despite making this thread I am starting to agree with the people who don't like the buy days. So I'm going to go through with this one but I'm not going to start the next one.

So whats up with the HD DVD buy day on May 28th...with all these new A2 owners I would of thought this buy date would be the talk of the town. So I thought I would give this a bump to remind you HD DVD owners. Monday the 28th is almost here. ;)

I think you are correct, plazman. Planet Earth has been amazing.

As for this buy day, I think we should not expect results like April 15. The anticipation and excitement leading up to that day were palpable. That was a lot of fun. :)
