Just got this e-mail tonight. Thought it was interesting as they asked questions about "High Definition" DVDs in general as well as HD-DVD and Blu-Ray specifically. Note I edited the URL because it had an identifier that probably links back to me. So If you click it, it may or may not work.

Dear Bradley

A key component of Netflix's success is our desire and ability to learn from our customers. Every month we conduct numerous studies and surveys in an effort to better understand and meet customer needs.

We'd like to invite you to participate in a brief survey about High Definition DVDs and High Definition DVD players. To participate, please click on the following link:

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this in... but it's getting late and I'm tired, so there's my excuse. ;)

I filled mine out. I told them HD-DVD is the best thing to happen to mankind since fire was invented. They didn't seem to care much about Blu-Ray, but I said that's nice too. I thought it was funny, given the furor in the IME thread, that they specifically asked about extra features.

I thought this was going to be a chance to bash Netflix for their crappy service, but instead it was a survey about High Definition.

I went to the survey link, and removed the ID numbers at the end.

After taking it, I began to wonder if they aren't trying to gage their subscriber's willingness to pay a premium for HD DVDs. They did mention that HD DVDs cost more, and questions were asked about how the experience compares to DVD.

In my comments, I added that one of the reasons I've remained a NetFlix subscriber is that HD DVD and DVD rental costs are the same. I should have also mentioned that I wouldn't have purchased and HD DVD player if they didn't rent HD DVDs. I wish I would have thought of that, dang it.

I submitted mine, everyone should go and give support to HD DVD.

I did, and I do. :)

As for "bashing Netflix for their crappy service", their service is excellent, I've rented 25+ HD DVD and hundreds of DVD's from them, and the only one that was unplayable was a HD DVD combo disk that had the two sides coming unglued. ;)

I also mentioned in the survey that I'd like to see them start offering import rentals of American movies that may not be available here on HD DVD. Since there isn't any region coding, we would get the chance to watch some Blu-Ray exclusives that have been released on HD DVD in other countries.
