I have a Denon 2807 which has a IR input and "output" port on the back. The manual is very vague about how these ports work and I wondered if anyone could explain it to me. Here are my questions:
1) I am thinking of buying a a harmony 890 remote with the RF->IR extender included. I assume that you can plug the extender into the 2807 IR input and avoid using flashers.
2) I was wondering how the IR out port on the 2807 works. Is this a pass through for the IR input? The manual says something about "for future use".
3) If I had several components with IR ports can I daisy chain them together?
4) With the Harmony 890 extender is there just one IR output or several?
Thanks so much
Philip

I would doubt #1. That assumes the electrical output of the extender matches what the electrical input of the 2807 wants to see. This sort of compatibility rarely happens by accident.
The 890 has one very powerful IR emitter in the extender. It's all I have to use in my situation. Then... if that's not enough... it comes with 8 (!) emitters on 4 cables that plug into 4 ports on the back of the extender. I was amazed when I unpacked it. That should cover you!

Although I have no experience with the Harmony extender unit, I have owned and used both URC and RTI RF base products. And with those, you CAN connect directly from the RF base unit to many components that have IR input jacks on the back. There are compatibility issues sometimes (proprietary protocols/stripped carriers) but many times it works and works well. This is how the pros like to do it. Just use a 3.5mm mono-mono cable that you can buy at Radio Shack.
I prefer the direct connect when available since it removes the ugly emitter bug from the front of the unit.

That's good to know, as I am in the process of setting up a new theater. Thanks! I never would have thought...
agreed the direct connect route is the way to go ..funny level 2 support at logitech didnt have a clue ..everyone wants to use the hideous flashers...the harmony extender works well with my yamaha rx-v3800 again directly puggin in via ir in... but not all all with the escient dvdm100. i can figure out what is wrong
