Isn't this based on the old Sigma chip?

By old you mean the 8620 rather than the 8634? Yes... Show me media server / content streamer (not a set-top box for cable companies) that uses the 8634 and I would get ready to buy one today :-)

Other than the name, case and remote, how does this product differ from the Z500? For example, does it improve HDMI or access to secured networks?

Seems this is answered on another thread in this forum: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=842266

Hmm. Home Media Gallery seems like an afterthought (though any thought along these lines from a major CE company is welcome, if overdue). Formats supported seem skimpy, and there's not much detail about supported formats (profiles) in either source.
I realize that a BD player should have no trouble with, say, 1080i .ts captures, but for $1500-$1800 will make no such assumptions.
Does anyone know any more? Is it actually available? CNet reviewed it (ho-hum) in January but engadget says it's not due till May?

It's been out. Check the Blu-Ray forum.
