View Full Version : 'Man on Fire' on Blu-ray -- any new info?
--PlayStation3-- 04-28-07, 04:16 PM At CES Fox announced 'Man on Fire' on Blu-ray to release in May.
Well, we're a couple days from May and there's no news about the movie what-so-ever...
Anyone have any new info about the movie? This is a highly anticipated movie for me... I need to have it in high def.
P.S: Who else is wants the movie on Blu-ray?
Listed as 14th May on play.com. If it does actually come out I'll definatly buy it.
This is probably my favorite all time movie. Will be double dipping with this title.
Id double dip for this one. The original I got was a hollywood special for 5$.
I can afford to toss that to the wind :D
ottscay 04-28-07, 05:30 PM I'll own this one the moment it comes out. I hope Fox is done repressing disks and releases this on time.
This was one of the very best looking HD titles on D-vhs....so I will defintely be buying it when its released.
Excellent movie also.
vancouver 04-28-07, 09:38 PM I guess not everyone is keeping up to date on FOX.

Sorry, but there will be no Man on Fire.

Sure there will...Fox will be releasing BD's again soon enough.
Man of Fire was never scheduled for a US release officially though. This is a UK release. Now, yes, it probably won't happen, but there's a whole slew of UK Fox releases on the 14th that "catch" up with the US releases (stuff like Planet of the Apes, Entrapment, blah blah), so Man on Fire might just slip through.
I've just noticied the first Ice Age movie is there on the 14th too (although that one did have a US date of 13th March IIRC).
Shane Martin 04-28-07, 10:13 PM MOF has a real gritty look to it so I'm not sure how much of a demo it will be for PQ. I suspect the usual whiners will complain plus it's 2.35 which the whiners will complain about as well.
I loved the film so I'll get it however I suspect the current suggested release will get delayed until later in 2007 or 2008.

Same here. It can hardly wait for this one.

speculation.
I hope you are right, but my gut tells me we wont see anything until Q4 at the earliest. It could be much worse then that even. You know FOX, they are good at telling lies to make the false sound true. If what has been said is the best they can say...nothing good is happening.
swifty7 04-29-07, 01:43 AM for me Man on Fire is the Best Denzel Washington movie he has done to date.

I agree, Denzel gives this performace his best of the best.
I simply thought he was amazing in the movie, especially when it gets to the action parts.

.
Its the second best looking D-vhs HD movie...despite the grit that looks right at home and natural.
The best looking HD D-vhs title was XMen 2...another Fox title.
speculation.

There are two more levels of protection that will be activated....and I am thinking they will release more when the first level is ready as opposed to waiting for the second.
If they don't...their definitely going to hear about it.
At any rate....this is why it was said that Fox went with BD....for the extra protection....and this pretty much confirms that.

Definitely agree with that. I still pull out Man on Fire, to use as demo material on my DVHS player.

Why is that? Aren't you going to purchase the disc? I can see the protection being a pain for those who like to download and steal the movie from the internet but it doesn't really concern people who purchase the disc.
gigapower 04-29-07, 10:31 PM MoF has one of the best soundtracks out there, I can't wait for this one to come out.

Yeah, the soundtrack is amazing. I love the beat they play right before Denzel goes into the car to cut off the guy fingers...

Probably because you have to wait 6 months longer than you should. I would think that its fairly obvious what he meant. Didn't seem overly cryptic to me.
wildfire99 04-29-07, 10:56 PM Corporate Logic Lesson #142: The Inverse Sales Law
Delaying a product's release will enhance sales of the product, because people enjoy waiting for something they want.
Proof: Pirate copies of popular movies are usually released before the film is shown in theaters and before a product's street date, which thus shows only pirates are interested in acquiring a title before the official street date.

Exactly, and those of us who weren't looking forward to the titles they were offering have to wait even longer, as those titles will fill up slots that could have been taken up by titles we would have wanted but are now pushed back.
I just hope that in the meantime, they can work on improving their products by providing extras along with quality video and audio, and get their pricing in line with other studios.
MoF has one of the best soundtracks out there, I can't wait for this one to come out.
SQ and PQ should both end up being top notch. :)
jayrader 05-01-07, 12:56 PM Fox can suck it. Sh!t or get off the pot. Or at least let us know whats up.
MoF was a great movie, and partying in Warez Mexico is even more fun.... Some support Fox is showing after promising specific things to consumers.... Lucky other studios havent decided to pull all there releases like Fox or Blu-ray would be dead already
beatboy77 05-01-07, 05:48 PM I just got an email from my contact with the BDA and she lists the following for release on Blu-ray in Late 2007/Early 2008. Most are Fox titles. Looks like Fox is still strong for Blu-ray.

Seems like 24 is coming soon, can't wait for that!

So Fox is not going to release BD Discs until the end of the year?
Looks like Fox is still strong for Blu-ray but only during the xmas holiday seasons each year... :(
beatboy77 05-01-07, 08:34 PM No, this was just a supplemental list. Still look for Fox releases starting in mid-June.

March, April, May, June, July, next xmas one of these months I guess...

Really?
Guess we can LOOK for them. Doesn't mean you'll find any.
TheCrackedJack 06-12-07, 09:45 AM It's about mid June, where should I be looking?
Releases on the 19th, I thought it was previously stated by Beatboy

Look for a big annoucement from Bill Hunt over the next few days regarding the Fox situation dealing with the delayed titles and some future announced Blu-ray titles.

I just received an email from my contact at Fox and she tells me that the delayed Fox titles will begin to release Exclusively on Blu-ray starting 06/19/07. As of now she can only confirm Mr. & Mrs. Smith on that day but expects we will also see "From Hell" and "Dodge Ball" that day as well.

I just got an email from my contact at Fox/MGM and she informs me that there should be an annoucement by the end of next week regarding the new release dates for the delayed Fox/MGM Blu-ray titles.
She also restated that we should start to see some of the rescheduled Fox/MGM titles hitting the street by Mid-June.

As I reported in an earlier post here on AVS, I basically received the same news as Bill from the Digital Bits received about Fox/MGM. Here it is:
Quote:
By the way, while we're talking HD format support, we've spoken once more with reps from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, who say in no uncertain terms that their studio is NOT wavering in its support of Blu-ray Disc, despite the continued delay of those catalog BD titles (from both Fox and MGM) that were first announced at CES in January. Some of our other industry sources have informed us that work IS ongoing on additional, as-yet-unannounced catalog titles for BD release from both studios, which seems to confirm Fox's on-the-record statements to us. Given this, we do fully expect all of these titles to be rescheduled and announced for release in the weeks aheadWe would certainly expect Fox to have something more substantial to say on the subject at the EMA Expo in July, if not sooner. Rest assured, we will post the official details here as soon as they're available.

According to past posts, it does say the 19th
TheCrackedJack 06-12-07, 09:58 AM I'm looking at the new releases on HiDefDigest and I see nothing for the 19th from Fox. Seems odd there would be no mention only about a week from when they would be released.
Is there something I'm overlooking?
Evangelo2 06-12-07, 10:01 AM Probably got pushed back :(
I want this title bad. LOVED this movie!

Ok it's mid-june now. Still no word from Fox.

According to Paidgeek the first BD+ titles will be released in about a week or so.
Whether or not it's Fox-titles remains unclear though.

A week, really?
I highly doubt Fox would release anything, wouldn't they need to announce the movies a couple months before?
bdizzle 06-13-07, 10:00 AM ...the mods really should just suspend beatboy's posting privaledges for a while. he's constantly wrong and his sources seem more like a figment of his imagination than anything else.

Well, if they're really coming in a week they can't be from Fox. Perhaps Fox wants to see if BD+ gets cracked before releasing any more of their titles.

Honestly...does it seem unlikely that information was given to him, which was then changed?
I mean this sort of stuff happenes all the time - company plans on doing this and that, which is later on delayed/postponed/cancelled or whatever.
Stop the Beatboy-hating campaign, it's totally unnecessary.

considering the majority of his sources have constantly been wrong, yes it seems very unlikely that he's constantly being blindsided with last minute delays, postponements, and cancellations. it would be one thing if his sources have been right or if the majority of his predictions have come true, but that's not the case. anyone can make threads stating neutrality and release dates and hide behind anonymous sources.
what beatboy hate campaign have i been on? ive never personally attacked him or said anything negative about the guy outside of his sources being wrong on numerous occasions.
it will officially be mid june on 2 days, and there hasnt been any announcement, marketting, previews, anticipation, or mention of fox releasing titles on any major HT site, podcast, blog, publication, or journal.

It's not that he was "wrong". It is that he is constantly spreading FUD on BOTH sides of this forum (Blu-ray AND HD-DVD).
Sisko197 06-13-07, 04:56 PM Beatboy wouldn't strain credibility if he was still in this thread posting, explaining what happened (or explaining that he doesn't KNOW what happened or that he was lied to), but when he just disappears from threads where he's blatantly wrong...
Well, that inclines one to think he's just pulling dates out his butt. Then again, June 19th is like what... next week? I guess we'll know then for sure.
In the meantime, I can only hope that the launch of BD+ means Fox (and MGM by extension) return to the release schedule soon.

Sisko197 06-19-07, 07:36 PM Well, now he's swearing up and down something is promised for the birthday of BD, the 20th, so I'll give him one more day before I decide he's just a poser.
Then again, betting on something happening on the BD release anniversary's a lot like betting boxes will appear around a Christmas tree during December...
Hm. Beatboy, whyfor has thou abandoned thy thread to despair and sorrow?

Looks like this was in reference to some mistake announcement of specific titles made yesterday but the update correcting it does not sound promising for Fox/MGM for releases later this year

I think the 22 titles just announced by Fox for France, including a number of the ones that were postponed here, is a pretty damn good sign.

Your happy about them possibly releasing titles, 7 months from now?
I can picture it now, at CES they can promise to release the same movies all over again....

I'm glad to hear somebody does...
As for me, I still dont see the 3 dozen or so movies promised for release here in the US by this time. I wasted 1k on broken promises and fed up by this point.
I have 51 BR titles and my Panny BR player and willing to sell it all for half the price I paid just to get out of this format... Anyone willing to pay 1k for the player and all the movies, send me a PM
