According to this article, Criterion is said to be releasing Salo in HD -- no mention of whether it's HD DVD or Blu-ray.

I bet they mis-read something that said Criterion was doing a new HD transfer.

^ if (and that's a BIG if) Criterion is jumping onto the HD bandwagon...i highly doubt that Salo would be one of the first titles...

This is being discussed elsewhere on AVS (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=840916), and I'd tend to agree that the author mistook "mastered in high-definition" (standard practice for virtually every studio, big or small, these days) for "high-definition release".
i highly doubt that Salo would be one of the first titles...With a spine number of 17, it was obviously one of their first DVD titles, so anything can happen.
I doubt that SALO would be their flagship HD title also, but they will enter the HD game soon enough I think.
i find the idea of watching SALO in HD mildly revolting, but to each his own i guess....

Yeah this sound highly doubtful. "Salo" is coming out again for sure. Criterion confirmed this many months ago.

Seriously. Salo just isn't for general public consumption, it's really niche (really really niche). On the plus side, it's guaranteed to drive away unwanted houseguests (and pets), accomplished now in High Definition!

I hate this movie with a passion
The thought of seeing fecal matter on a platter in HD is even more disturbing

I wouldn't be too surprised if it did come out and is one of their first HD titles as the OOP standard version sells upward of $600-800 used and was one of their first titles to go OOP. I doubt we will see it in either format before 2008, but here's hoping.
