All-white objects weren't blooming and oversaturated here Saturday from the Texas golf match. (NYC's TWC, via WCBS-DT, with a SA8300HD cable converter and 9"-CRT RPTV.) By contrast, as discussed earlier (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10246765&&#post10246765), whitish sand traps from the Masters appeared to be fuzzy blobs without any detail. And overall, the images from Texas just seemed slightly crisper; maybe it's improved contrast, with folks in the truck maintaining better remote exposure control from the HD cameras. Even all-white clothing wasn't oversaturating, often spotted at the U.S. Tennis Open and other sporting events. Not a big fan of sand trap rake marks, but attention to details helps the broadcast. -- John

Proper use of knee curve can go a long way to reduce hard clipping. That feature has been in cameras for over 30 years.

ya i was notcing a 'smear' on the faces of golfers on moving cameras with little flashes of ghost images on their faces. This was usually only on closeups.

Will that be gone now too?

I've only noticed that on NBC broadcasts, during both HD and SD shots. I haven't seen it with CBS. But then again, I haven't watched much PGA this year on CBS or NBC due to our affiliates multicasting and the HD PQ looking not too good.

Amen brother!! Yes! Yes!

I thought I was losing my mind. I went back and looked at some of my DVHS recordings of this years Master's last week...and yikes...I thought everything looked blown-out. Over exposed to the point of losing detail. I thought I must be losing my mind.

Then yesterday I turned on the Nelson and said to myself " gee this looks so much better that this years Master's. Much sharper with nothing crushed or over exposed.".

Then I see this thread!

I thought so as well.
