I didn't post this in the Mitsu owners' thread because I want all opinions (even the brutally honest ones).
I've been shopping TVs for about a week since my Mitsu 42" HDTV went a bit haywire (red gun is way off and un-convergeable...could have repaired, but new is more fun).
Anyhow, I wanted 1080p on the cheap and came across a WD-Y57 at Circuit City as an open box for $1200 (1199, but i tend to round up).
It was $1400 on Friday, but I decided not to pull the trigger, but this morning when I dropped in it was down to 1200.
I've got 30 days to bring it back. There's a scratch on the screen that I was concerned about, so I can basically take it back for that, though it does seem to be basically unnoticeable except on bright scenes...then it looks like a smudge. If I keep it, I'll look into ways to buff it out or fill it in to make it less noticeable.
My questions:
1) $1200 after tax is $1300....can I get better bang for my buck?
2) Paid the extra $250 for the 2-year extended warranty almost entirely because it's said to include one replacement bulb (figured I was just buying a bulb in advance)....good or bad idea?
3) They also had a Samsung 40" 1080p LCD (LN-S4095D) that looked pretty sweet for $1200 (may have been 1300 as I'm a bit fuzzy) -- I know size matters, but is anyone adament on going for this over the Mitsu or vice versa?
I bought the DLP mainly because it's in the living room, and I didn't want my 6 or my 3 (more likely) year old to knock it over.
Thanks for any input. Oops. One other...
4) Are there settings one can tune in on these things (like plasmas) to get good calibration, or do I need to bust out VE and just calibrate the thing?
Thanks again.
